Dolly Parton leaves music, memory and more than 300 million books bearing children’s own names.

She knew the ache of watching her father live in a world whose words were closed to him, so she transformed his lack-of into imagine the possibilities…and thus the Imagination Library was born, sending free books each month to children from birth to age five.

More than five million of those books have reached children across Canada.

Today, Decoda joins readers around the world in mourning a beloved artist and honouring an extraordinary literacy champion.

Forevermore, children will read books with their names on it, and we will all listen to songs full of her stories. There are few legacies more beautiful than that.

Thank you, Dolly 🩷 Your sparkle will live on always.

Dolly had a dream to get as many books into the hands of children as possible. This dream will continue through her Imagination Library. In our little community, with the collaboration and support of many donors, since 2018 our task group has been able to gift over 10,900 books to local children under 5. That is a total cost of over $40,000 in books!

Dolly knew the power of literacy, and she used her resources and influence to help provide children throughout the world increased access to books in their own homes, sent right to their mailboxes.

$45 provides one child with books for a full year. Donations in honour of Dolly may be made directly to our local program here: https://donate.imaginationlibrary.com/?country=CA&affid=BCBURNSLAKE

We know saying goodbye to Hoopla was hard, so we are so excited to announce the release of the Palace Project! The Palace Project is an app with a huge database of e-books and audiobooks, pulling from 3 different sources, with some titles having unlimited simultaneous use like Hoopla. To sign up, download the app, select a title & a pop-up will appear asking you to select your library. Select the Burns Lake Public Library and then enter your library card number and your pin (the last 4 digits of your phone number on file).
