Today, we honour and remember the many Indigenous people who served, sacrificed, and stood with courage in defence of our country. For generations, Indigenous Peoples have shown unwavering strength, resilience, and commitment to protecting this land — even when that same land did not always protect them.
Indigenous Remembrance Day is not only a time to reflect on their military service, but also an opportunity to remember the culture, traditions, and history that shape their deep connection to this land. It is a moment to acknowledge the injustices and hardships faced by Indigenous communities, both in times of war and peace.
True reconciliation begins when we remember our past honestly — when we recognize the pain, celebrate the resilience, and commit to building a future rooted in respect and understanding. By listening, learning, and standing together, we move toward a healthier future of care, collaboration, and unity.
Today, and every day, we give thanks to the Indigenous heroes who have served and continue to serve, and we reaffirm our shared responsibility to honour their legacy through action, awareness, and reconciliation.
Lest we forget.
