What an absolutely incredible day!

Because of each and every one of you, A Special Day for Amazing Kids was a tremendous success. The smiles, the laughter, the excitement, and the joy we witnessed throughout the day happened because of your generosity, your kindness, and the time you gave to make this event so special.

Whether you welcomed families at registration, served food, cooked hot dogs, handed out prizes, ran games, helped with crafts, painted faces, supported children and families, kept activities running smoothly, or simply shared your smile with everyone you met—you made a difference.

You didn't just volunteer...

You created an experience.

On July 27th, 2026, over 200 children and their families came together to laugh, play, make new friends, and create memories they will never forget. We watched children celebrate every game, proudly collect their prizes, enjoy lunch together, and experience a day where they could simply be kids.

Those moments happened because of you.

Your patience, enthusiasm, flexibility, compassion, and willingness to help wherever needed made this event feel welcoming, inclusive, and full of joy. Every conversation, every encouraging word, every high-five, every smile, and every act of kindness helped create an atmosphere that families could truly feel.

Attached is a volunteers certificate.- most of you stayed longer than planned. We have made it out for 6 hours of volunteer service. Please fill in your name. Not everyone signed up so please if you brought a friend pass it onto them.

We were honoured to participate in the School Leaving Ceremony of the Class of 2026 of Moscrop Secondary School, held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 6:30 PM at the Simon Fraser University Convocation Mall in Burnaby, BC.

Mugaruka Maimona Gabriel attended the ceremony to represent the Rotary Club of Burnaby and the presentation of the Rotary Club of Burnaby Bursary. The bursary was awarded to a deserving student in good academic standing who made a significant contribution to the school community through leadership, service, and commitment.

We sincerely congratulate the recipient, all graduating students, families, teachers, and staff for their dedication and achievements.

The Rotary Club of Burnaby remains committed to supporting education, youth leadership, and community engagement.

We were proud to participate in the Hyack Parade in New Westminster alongside many dedicated Rotary members, Rotaractors, families, and community leaders.

The event was very well organized, and all Rotary clubs were wonderfully represented. It was an excellent opportunity to showcase Rotary fellowship, service, and community impact to the public.

Special thanks to District Governor Elect HSIEH, DEAN, District Governor Nominee RON, and all Rotary leaders who joined us for this memorable day of unity and service.

This leadership conference was attended for the Rotary Club of Burnaby by President Jim Fryett, President Elect Chris Langley and Past President Gabriel in his role as Assistant District Governor for our club’s area. A huge amount of thinking and planning went into the preparation of this first local version of the training for club Executive and Directors. It opened up the ability to rethink Rotary anew and to reconnect with what was working well. We were focussed on the generosity of “the ask”…..inviting and maintaining the volunteer serving spirit of members of our communities, offering them at a seat of the Rotary family table of 1.25 million Rotarians around the globe working together in creative ways to serve our local, national and international members of the global population to create peace, welfair and wellbeing. A great deal was learned by all and contributed by all in the spirit of sharing. The challenge to the 2026 Presidents, Boards and membership was clear. Do not just keep doing things just because it’s what the club has always done. You will get the same results This is fine if productive, but rethink and explore “one year projects” with “new ways of thinking and seeing” and if they don’t work, try again with new ideas and keep trying. Raise the community profile of Rotary. Oh and yes….. HAVE FUN!

Tanya decided to embark on a 100 days of service
1st project was in Belize, painting the central prison. Interesting that the prison is run by a Rotary Club (9 of 12 board members) in Belize.
2nd project was in Columbia painting a school in Cartagena. In addition, Tanya arranged for a shelter to be constructed over the courtyard. With additional money they supplied the school with new kitchen appliances, a TV and conputers.
3rd project was in Costa Rica; the police station in the town was a shambles so Tanya said she would paint it. Tanya found some volunteers in a local coffee shop.
4th project was back in Columbia (Medellin). This trip Tanya's daughter and niece joined her to paint an orphanage. Local Rotaractors came to help. In addition, they repaired computers and restocked kitchen. Everything they removed from the kitchen went to local families.
5th project was in Mexico, where Tanya and her daughter were joined by Russell and his two daughters who went to the school board in Mazatlan and asked which school needed painting. The local Rotary club provided $500. the walls around the school were painted gold. Many parents of the children at the school came to help. In addition, the local Rotary Club helped build a soccer field.
