🐻 Meet Porter 💜

He’s purple (our favourite colour!), he wears an adorable Port Shirt, he has WCK stickers on his ears (you'll recognize these from our snacks and meals at BC Children's), and he has a pretty busy calendar. Porter the WCK Bear has been popping up at awareness events, info sessions, Impact Dinners, program activities and wherever else WCK happens to be. And since he’s already along for the ride, we thought it was time to officially introduce him.

From now on, you might spot Porter sharing what’s happening at WCK, meeting our community, cheering on our volunteers, or going on an adventure! He’s curious. He’s always up for an outing. And he’s very proud of his Port Shirt. Join us in giving Porter a warm, official welcome to the WCK community.

Today is World Mental Health Day 💜

For individuals and families navigating childhood cancer or a blood disorder, mental health can be affected in so many ways - from diagnosis and treatment, to the everyday challenges that come with life on a different path. And taking care of mental health can look different for everyone. Sometimes it’s talking to someone who understands, and other times it’s finding a little space to create, play, connect, or just take a breath.

At WCK, we believe those moments matter, too. Supporting the whole family means creating opportunities for connection, creative expression, and mental health support along the way.

Join us for an evening with great food, meaningful connection, and a purpose that matters. Our Vancouver Impact Dinner is Wednesday, November 4th from 5–8 p.m. at The Loft at Earls Yaletown. The evening includes:

Behind the scenes of The Club 💻✨

This year, The Club is growing from two volunteers to four - Brooke, Abbey, Bronwyn, and Kayla - and they’re already getting together to plan what’s ahead. The Club is becoming even more member-led, with our volunteers taking the lead in curating and facilitating sessions throughout the year based on what members want to explore, talk about and do together.

The Club kicked off its 2026–27 year last month, and we can’t wait to see what this crew creates together. Here’s to more connection, more ideas, and more opportunities for young adults impacted by childhood cancer and blood disorders to shape The Club themselves.

For Gabrielle and Bryan, WCK’s support has shown up in many different ways throughout their family’s childhood cancer journey, from a port shirt for Eliana to meals that mean one less thing to think about on a long treatment day.

As Gabrielle says, “You are making the day-to-day lives of families going through pediatric cancer a little bit easier.” That’s what practical, consistent support can do. And it’s possible because of the incredible supporters who choose to show up for families, day after day, month after month.

We're delighted to welcome Helen to our WCK Board of Directors.

Helen is an entrepreneur and community advocate with a passion for improving the lives of children and families. Drawing on her background in international relations and education, she has devoted years to supporting charitable initiatives and fundraising efforts that create lasting impact. She is driven by the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.

For Helen, joining WCK is about helping ensure every child and family facing childhood cancer or a blood disorder feels supported, cared for, and never alone. She's passionate about building a community that offers hope, connection, and practical support to families during some of life's most difficult moments.

Helen brings a collaborative spirit, fresh ideas, and a heart that’s deeply invested in supporting children and families. Much of her experience has been centered around connecting people, building relationships, and sharing stories that inspire action. She looks forward to helping strengthen community partnerships, grow awareness and fundraising efforts, and keep the needs of children and families at the heart of every board decision.
