A perfect day for field work near the Brunette River- downloading 4 months of conductivity and temperature data from an autonomous logger. This data is used by researchers with the Road Salt and Pacific Salmon Success Project. This is such a beautiful peaceful spot- big trees and lots of birds!

And that’s a wrap! Our awesome volunteers planted 200 native plants on Saturday to finish up a year long project to create more habitat for native pollinators! In November 2024, this site under the B.C. Hydro transmission line was covered in Reed canary grass and Himalayan Blackberry. It took countless hours of work with pickaxes to remove roots & rootballs from the heavy clay soil. Many thanks to for their generous grant to fund this project and and for their support! Thank you for the beautiful healthy native plants!

🌿 Big news for the Cariboo Heights Forest!

A huge thank you to Burnaby City Council for unanimously voting to protect all undedicated lands in Cariboo Heights as parkland. This is a monumental win for conservation, community well-being, and future generations.

On September 9, City Council directed staff to prepare a plan for dedicating and securing protection of the remaining undedicated portions of Discovery Place Park, Cariboo Conservation Area, and Brunette River Conservation Area as park for long-term protection.

Special gratitude to Mayor Hurley and all city councilors for their leadership in making this happen.

After years of advocacy and outreach, it’s incredibly rewarding to see this ecologically important forest get the protection it deserves. 🌲
