We are so grateful for 4 years of partnering with . Every year through these events we meet so many amazing people who care about helping nature! Thanks to all of you who showed up today in spite of the rain showers and pulled English ivy. We filled the two dumpsters supplied by the City of Burnaby and opened so much more habitat for native plants to flourish and help nature thrive! The birds, pollinators and Washington snowshoe hares thank you! 💚🐝🐇

Despite grey skies and rain showers, more than 30 people joined and Cariboo Heights Forest Preservation Society to celebrate Burnaby’s Environment Week by removing invasive ivy from the Cariboo Heights Forest! A shout-out to everyone for their hardwork today- making a difference by pulling ivy and freeing up more habitat for native plants. We were thrilled to be joined by the 1st Southwest Burnaby Cub Scouts with leaders Jen & Mark bringing out Cherise, Eva, Max, & Trevor!

We started celebrating Burnaby’s Environment Week with a guided walk through the Cariboo Heights Forest. Such a friendly, keen group- we looked for blossoms, berries and bugs. Families worked on a nature scavenger hunt and our youngest group members looked for special stones and sticks. Hope to see you again soon!

Thanks to our awesome volunteers for spending Friday morning with us to survey the benthic invertebrates in Ancient Grove Creek! We had showers, a bit of sunshine, lots of water critters including the largest mayfly larva ever found in this creek! Of course there were refreshments: tea, snacks including homemade brownies (thanks Ashton!) and cookies! After all the collecting, sorting, identification and counting was done, it seems that the lower part of Ancient Grove creek continues to be a good habitat for young salmon! This data is all shared with the and their research on the effects of road salt on the survival of benthic invertebrates and juvenile salmon!

We have been busy prepping for Burnaby Blooms, 2026- Sunday May 3 at the festival lawn at the Shadbolt centre, 11 am-4 pm! This fun, free event celebrates nature and creativity! Our amazing volunteers have sliced countless tree slices for visitors to decorate as a nature necklace, key fob or backpack bangle! Visit our booth, learn about nature in Burnaby’s Secret Forest and get creative!

A perfect day for field work near the Brunette River- downloading 4 months of conductivity and temperature data from an autonomous logger. This data is used by researchers with the Road Salt and Pacific Salmon Success Project. This is such a beautiful peaceful spot- big trees and lots of birds!
