The Stoney Creek Environment Committee is a group of volunteers committed to preserving, enhancing, and protecting Burnaby's urban forest and stream through various stream-keeping activities. SCEC.ca Twitter In October, 1995, agroup of citizens, with a shared concern for the Brunette River Watershed and the health of Stoney Creek, came together to form the Stoney Creek Environment Committee (SCEC). These dedicated volunteers underwent extensive training on how to conduct various stream habitat studies and collected information based on criteria set out by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO)

This past Sunday, members of the Stoney Creek Environment Committee attended the 5th Annual Road Salt Project Showcase at the Pacific Science Enterprise Centre in West Vancouver.

It was wonderful to celebrate how far the Road Salt Project has come — growing from its early beginnings at Stoney Creek to now include 31 monitoring sites and 14 stream stewardship groups.

A special thank you to longtime SCEC member Alan James, who shared some of the history behind the project and recognized the many dedicated individuals who helped pioneer and support the initiative along the way.

We’re proud to see research that began right here at Stoney Creek continue to grow through collaboration, community stewardship, and a shared commitment to protecting our local waterways.
