The Stoney Creek Environment Committee is a group of volunteers committed to preserving, enhancing, and protecting Burnaby's urban forest and stream through various stream-keeping activities. Another spawning season wrapped up! 🍂

Thanks to our team and volunteers for tracking spawner returns all season long. Final counts show solid returns in Stoney Creek and continued use of Silver Creek by both chum and coho salmon!

🐟 Stoney Creek: 1,394 chum | 663 coho
🐟 Silver Creek: 33 chum | 18 coho

SCEC kicked off the New Year with a fantastic bird walk led by our Vice President, Wendy, around Hoy Creek Trail and Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam.

The walk focused on bird identification, local habitats, and the ecological and historical significance of the area.

We kept a log of all the wildlife we encountered. Notable sightings included hooded mergansers, hummingbirds, and even a heron—an exciting start to the year!
