Today is BCNU Day! On June 11, 1981, approx. 200 nurses gathered in Victoria for BCNU’s founding convention, united by a vision of a stronger voice for nurses. Today, that vision has grown into a union representing more than 55,000 nurses and allied health-care workers who continue to advocate for safer workplaces, stronger public health care and a better future for the entire profession. As we celebrate BCNU Day across all regions, we recognize the contributions of the generations of nurses whose efforts helped shape the union we are today. Take the BCNU Day quiz on the BCNU Member Portal and test your knowledge of the union’s advocacy and work to implement minimum nurse-to-patient ratios, tackle workplace violence, advance human rights and equity and more. Quiz closes at midnight tonight.

Happy National AccessAbility Week. During this week, BCNU celebrates key accessibility supports across our union. From bargained language in our collective agreement such as Article 31 on non-discrimination and the duty to accommodate (Appendix A.6), to the Enhanced Disability Management Program, and to our union-wide scent-free policy, BCNU centres the perspectives and needs of members with disabilities. Accessibility is fundamental to the labour movement’s work to create safer, more equitable, and inclusive workplaces for all.
