At K.Storm, we proudly stand by the LGBTQ+ community and support gender equality!

๐ŸŒˆ Pride month is celebrated every year in the month of June to honour the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. At first, it was celebrated on the last Sunday of June, but it soon grew to encompass a month-long series of events and celebrations. Many events are held during this month as a way to recognize the impact that LGBTQ+ people have had on history around the world.

We encourage everyone to respect each other, follow your heart, and be your proud self! No one can define you, except YOU โค๏ธ!

๐ŸŽŠ SFU K.Storm wishes everyone a Happy Lunar New Year ๐ŸŽŠ

**Seollal** (์„ค๋‚ ), also known as **Gujeong** (๊ตฌ์ •), is one of the most important holidays and busiest times of the year in Korea. To celebrate Seollal, people visit their families to spend quality time together, offer Sebae (์ƒˆ๋ฐฐ or new yearโ€™s bow) to their elders and hold memorial ceremonies for their ancestors.

๐Ÿ’ก Some important words to know for celebrating Seollal!

๐Ÿ™‡ **Charye** (์ฐจ๋ก€) is the most common way to perform the ceremony in honour of oneโ€™s ancestors. It involves preparing a New Yearโ€™s meal which is set out on a table as a gift for their ancestors. When performing Charye, people visit ancestral graves and bow twice as a sign of respect.

๐Ÿฒ **Tteokguk** (๋–ก๊ตญ) is a main traditional dish included in a Korean New Year's feast. It is a soup with round rice cakes, and is meant to symbolize good fortune and new beginnings. Other common food eaten during the Lunar New Year is **Jeon** (์ „), a pancake-like dish, **Sanjeok** (์‚ฐ์ ), a meat and vegetable skewer, and Korean traditional desserts such as **Yakgwa** (์•ฝ๊ณผ) - which are honey cookies.

๐ŸŽ **Mal** (๋ง). 2026 is the Year of the Horse, which is called Mal (๋ง) in Korea. In Korea, each year is represented by an animal whose characteristics are believed to be shared by children born that year. As the horse represents energy, freedom, and strength, people believe those born in 2026 will be spirited, hardworking, and independent.

๐Ÿ”˜ **Yutnori** (์œท๋†€์ด) One of the most popular traditional games played during Seollal. It is a race to the finish board game with four wooden sticks, which are thrown to determine how the players move.

โœจ **FUN FACT: Bokjumeoni** (๋ณต์ฃผ๋จธ๋‹ˆ) is a drawstring silk pouch with beautiful embroidered patterns where money is given as a gift to children when they do **Sebae** (์„ธ๋ฐฐ), the act of deeply bowing to elders as a sign of respect.
