CUPE BC

CUPE BC CUPE BC represents more than 100,000 workers delivering vital public services in almost every community in B.C.

Walking away from U.S. trade bullies was the only right move. Accepting bad terms would mean surrendering our future to unfair demands.

Hard times are ahead, and Canadian workers will feel the pressure. Now is the time for us to look out for each other, protect our industries, and demand government support for impacted communities.

Together, we hold the line. ✊

Our hearts go out to the thousands across British Columbia affected by the many devastating fires burning around the province. With more than 100 active wildfires, 49 evacuation alerts, and 38 evacuation orders as of noon today, many communities are affected, and lives disrupted.

In particular, this morning's news of the total evacuation of Summerland and Peachland overnight is particularly harrowing. The speed with which the Bald Range fire spread to force those evacuations illustrates the dangerous situation facing those in the fire-prone regions of the province right now.

A massive thank you to all the first responders, fire fighters, rescue professionals, and the many public workers operating around the clock to keep people safe, defend communities, support those displaced, and protecting homes and businesses.

For up-to-date information, please follow your local news and consult your local authorities. You can also consult Emergency Info BC (PreparedBC) for verified and updated information on all provincial emergencies.

We join the National Union in recognizing the passing of former CUPE BC President and former National Secretary-Treasurer Geraldine McGuire.

Geraldine’s commitment, passion and service to members made a difference in the lives of the workers she represented, and the labour movement is richer for her contributions and advocacy.

On behalf of the Executive Boards past and present, we offer our sincere condolences to Geraldine’s family and friends.

CUPE mourns the passing of Geraldine McGuire, a trailblazing union leader, fierce defender of public services and former CUPE National Secretary-Treasurer.

Geraldine served as CUPE’s National Secretary-Treasurer from 1991 until her retirement in 2001. A former president and honourary life member of CUPE BC, she brought conviction, courage and her trademark fire and wit to every role she held within our union.

When asked at the time of her retirement how she hoped to be remembered, she answered simply: “With integrity.”

Geraldine’s contributions to equality, financial stability, strike support and the defence of public services continue to shape CUPE today.

We extend our deepest condolences to Geraldine’s family, friends and loved ones, and to the many CUPE members, activists and staff whose lives she touched.

Congrats to CUPE 8125 members!

WestJet Mainline flight attendants have reached a tentative agreement. With the strike now over, flight attendants will be returning to work. If ratified, the agreement improves upon the legacy flight credit system by introducing a duty period premium that recognizes more of the work cabin crew are required to perform and increases compensation for that work.

CUPE 8125 President Alia Hussain said, “This tentative agreement represents meaningful progress. It evolves the flight credit system by recognizing more of the work cabin crew are required to perform and with general increases to compensation for that work. Most importantly, this agreement was achieved through collective bargaining at the negotiating table. We will now present the agreement to our members for their review and ratification vote.”

The tentative agreement will now be presented to the membership for review and a ratification vote. Details of the agreement will be shared directly with members in advance of the vote.

Our annual Think Tank brings our Executive Board together with CUPE BC and BC Region staff consider the challenges ahead, plan our strategy to achieve the objectives set by members, and lay out our work for the year.

This year's Think Tank wraps up today after three days of great conversations, informative presentations, and dynamic discussions on an updated list of objectives for 2026/27. Several sessions were real highlights of our 2026 event, including our campaign breakout groups that provided input into coming campaigns work on post-secondary education, worker heath and safety, and public transit.

The government relations session with Ministers Sunner, Gibson and Whiteside and MLA Janet Routledge was a fantastic opportunity to hear about the important work of the BC government, the challenges ahead for British Columbia, and on issues that matter to CUPE members. We are deeply grateful that these powerhouse leaders were able to join us!

As we wrap up today there is so much excitement about what can be achieved in the next year and we're ready to start!

Thanks to Joshua Berson for the great 📷
