The Burnaby Youth Sustainability Network unites youth who share the same interest and passion for environmental sustainability, youth from across Burnaby and beyond. We meet once a month to share ideas, collaborate on district-wide initiatives, and spark discussion. Do It Green is an annual sustainability conference open to all students and staff members of the Burnaby School District. The day includes keynote speakers, a variety of workshops and booths from community organizations, and opportunities to see what all of the Burnaby high schools are doing to promote sustainability. DIG is fully organized and run by BYSN students, giving members a chance to experience taking on the tasks of organizing a district-wide event, as well as giving them the chance to be able to share what they're doing to improve sustainability with students beyond the network. It is the largest youth sustainability conference in the district. In April 2013, the fourth annual Do It Green conference saw almost 500 Burnaby students, school board staff, community members and guests from neighboring districts participating in the event! Generation Green is a mentorship program that closes the bridge between high school students and elementary school students. Volunteer high school students spearhead educational events such as community clean-ups and lesson plans. Our partner elementary schools include Chaffey Burke Elementary, Capitol Hill Elementary, and Windsor Elementary. We also work with our buddies from Forest Grove Elementary School to improve and learn about the elementary school's garden while having lots of fun at the same time! BYSN welcomes all students, supporters, and community members as well as new ideas for initiatives. Join us for a monthly meeting or join our Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/bysn.sd41
