Hi everyone!

We'll be having a standard meeting on Wednesday, September 28th at 6:30PM in AQ 5018 this week!

The theme of the meeting is "Past, Present, Future". While it's easy to get caught up in responsibilities that are immediately required, sometimes it's good to take a step back and see how the decisions we make today will affect us going forward. Join us to reflect on how we've grown from our past selves into who we are today, and discuss how we will look to further ourselves in the future!

We hope to see you there!

Hello everyone!

We will be having our Fall Icebreaker meeting tomorrow, September 21st at 6:30 PM in AQ 5018! We will be providing free pizza 🍕!

The theme of the meeting is "Situation, Task, Action, Result" (STAR) which is a storytelling framework that concisely highlights personal accomplishments. We highly recommend using the STAR format for work items on your resume and to structure your responses to behavioural interview questions. However, STAR is also a pragmatic storytelling method for humorous and serious stories. Join us for a night where we provide the situations and tasks and you give us realistic or whimsical actions and results!

We hope to see you there!

Hello everyone!

After 2 years of weekly online Toastmasters meetings, we're happy to announce that we'll be having our 1st in-person Toastmasters meeting at SFU on July 6th! This meeting will be a warm up to get us all back in the groove of in-person public speaking - a major change from how we've been interacting online for the past while. Additionally, there will be some free pizza 🍕! This will be the only in-person meeting for this summer, though the club will be back in-person throughout the fall semester (room still to be determined).

Public speaking is often not easy and doesn't come naturally to many people. Toastmasters is aimed at improving public speaking skills for anyone that chooses to join. While it was great being able to speak virtually, the Toastmasters format shines the most in improving and acclimatizing members (and guests) to deal with public speaking situations face-to-face.

The theme of this upcoming July 6th meeting is "A picture is worth a thousand words". Pictures often can have underlying meanings that aren't easily expressed through spoken delivery, though it is up to the orator to determine the language and style to convey that of which is displayed. There are many ways in which a picture can be interpreted and in this meeting we'll try our luck with a picture-oriented theme!

Come join us for some free pizza and non-alcoholic drinks at 6:30pm on Wednesday, July 6 at TASC1 9204. We hope to see you there in-person!

Hello Toastmasters and the most welcomed guests,

This week’s theme is “Love It or Leave It.” Say if you have an object, then what are your reasons to cherish it or abandon it? Or do you even have rational reasons or are they mostly based on emotions?

In this week’s table topics session, we encourage everyone to love it (participate) but not leave it (not participate).

We meet at 6:30 PM tonight. Please send us a message for the Zoom meeting room.

Hello everyone,

Debates, especially rational ones, are a good way of finding out what ideas are better. In other words, debates are the single best way to create a marketplace of ideas, especially with the active participation of properly informed audience. In the table topics session of this week’s meeting, we are going to practice debating skills, hone the sharpness of our minds, and most importantly, have fun!

We meet at 6:30 pm today. If you would like to know about our meeting venue, you can message us via Facebook or send us an email to [email protected]

We look forward to meeting you!

Hello everyone,

The theme this week is Optimism. As we've been in unprecedented times for the third year in a row, we may sometimes fall into a well of hopelessness. Tonight at Burnaby Mountain Toastmasters, we would like to counter that with Optimism--a positive outlook towards the year ahead, whether with your own personal lives or the world.

As always we meet on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM on Zoom. Please send us a message about the meeting room. We hope to see you all there!
