HEU welcomes B.C.’s new Health Minister, Ravi Kahlon.

Health care workers look forward to working with Minister Kahlon to strengthen public health care and address the issues facing workers across the province. We also look forward to welcoming him to HEU’s convention this fall.

We thank Minister Josie Osborne for her work with HEU, including our shared work to strengthen long-term care and improve conditions for the people who provide it. We wish her well in her new role as Minister of Finance.

In 1999, the UN General Assembly declared August 12 International Youth Day.

It is a day to celebrate the power, creativity and leadership of young people across the world, and the contributions that young people make in our workplaces, communities and health care.

Young people have the power to drive change and progress towards more just and sustainable communities. The energy, passion, and fresh perspectives of young workers are vital to building a stronger and equitable future.

Many HEU members in Summerland have been evacuated alongside residents from their worksites, while other members across B.C. have also been evacuated or are facing wildfire threats.

Many are continuing to care for others while worrying about their own homes, families and communities.

The rapidly unfolding wildfire situation has been extremely difficult for many communities in B.C.

Our thoughts are with the households that have been evacuated and our members who have been redeployed as a result of the wildfire activity.

🚨 Important reminder for HEU members affected by wildfires this summer.

HEU's Disaster Relief Fund provides short-term financial relief to members who are personally affected by a wildfire. The fund provides $500 per family to help with immediate needs.

🔗 For more information about eligibility and how to apply, please visit HEU.org/Disaster-Relief-Fund

☎️ HEU Wildfire Hotline and Email

For members who are directly impacted, HEU representatives are available to provide support and respond to questions about the impact of wildfires on your workplace.

Call HEU’s Wildfire Hotline at 1-888-392-9710 or email [email protected] to connect with HEU staff.

Please stay safe and remember that your union is here to support you during this difficult time.
