Building Better Value with Union Skilled Trades

An independent report prepared by Independent Project Analysis (IPA) compared 140 completed projects in British Columbia and Alberta over 15-years:

79 projects were built using union skilled trades
61 projects were built using open-shop labour

The findings from the report were notable:

• 17% higher productivity among union skilled trades
• 16% lower construction labour costs on union projects
• 7% lower total project costs on average

On September 30, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We encourage everyone to take the opportunity to learn more about the devastating and lasting impacts of the Canadian residential school system on Indigenous peoples and communities.

Truth and Reconciliation calls on all of us to listen, learn, reflect, and take meaningful steps toward understanding Canada's history and our shared responsibility to reconciliation.

For more information and educational resources, please visit the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR): https://nctr.ca

Please note: In observance the DC38 offices will close at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, and will reopen on October 1, resuming regular business hours.

Thank you for taking the time to learn, reflect, and recognize the importance of Truth and Reconciliation.

What a great Labour Day celebration!

A big thank you to everyone who came out to Edmonds Park and stopped by the DC38 booth to celebrate Labour Day. It was wonderful connecting with members, families, neighbours, and our community partners while celebrating the contributions of working people.

This day shows the strength, pride, and community that comes from working together. Thank you to the Vancouver & District Labour Council and the New Westminster & District Labour Council for bringing our communities together, and to everyone who helped make the celebration such a success.

We’re proud to stand with working people on Labour Day and every day.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for our One Union, One Family, One Fight Building Union Power training!

It was inspiring to see members come together to reconnect, share ideas, and talk about how we can continue building a stronger, more united Union. This campaign is about standing together, supporting one another, and ensuring we continue fighting for better wages, safer working conditions, and stronger contracts for all members.

Be on the lookout for upcoming Building Union Power campaign meetings and events happening with DC38. We’ll be announcing more dates soon, so don’t miss your chance to get involved, sign the pledge, and help build the future of our union. We’re just getting started, let’s keep building momentum and union power together.

One Union. One Family. One Fight. Together, we build Union Power.
