As announced by the Canadian Labour Congress on May 22, 2026, the International Court of Justice has affirmed that the right to strike is protected under international law. This ruling confirms that the right to strike is a fundamental part of freedom of association and collective bargaining.

At IATSE 891, we recognize that progress does not happen overnight. It happens when workers organize, advocate, and stand together. This historic victory was made possible through the collective efforts and solidarity of unions across Canada.

Each year, May 17 marks International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia. Anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate, and efforts to undermine inclusion and equality, are putting the safety and community of 2SLGBTQIA+ people at greater risk both locally and globally.

IATSE 891 strongly condemns any and all acts of hatred, discrimination, and bullying against our 2SLGBTQIA+ members and kin. We encourage and advocate for our members and allies who work to build inclusive workplaces and celebrate our diverse humanity through their extraordinary craft in motion picture production — each and every day.
