We’re always committed to water safety, even in your dreams.

If you’re spending time on, in, or around the water, it’s important to:
🌊 Wear a PFD or lifejacket on any kind of vessel or watercraft.
🌊 Swim in lifeguard-supervised areas.
🌊 Wear bright colours, like pink, orange, red, and yellow, so you can be easily spotted in case of emergency.

For over 15 years, the Lifesaving Society has been running Swim to Survive at Brentwood College. Over 300 students participated this year and learned how to stay safe while attending school by the ocean! The few participants that were unable to pass the program will have the opportunity to take free swimming lessons later this year.

We’re thrilled by the amazing turnout and wish everyone a great, water-safe school year!

Today, September 30, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

This observance invites us to reflect on the tragic legacy of residential schools, recognize the resilience of Indigenous communities, and honour the survivors, the children who never came home, and their families and communities.

Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. We acknowledge that colonial history continues to impact Indigenous communities in BC and Yukon, and we are committed to walking the path of reconciliation together.

The BC & Yukon Branch office will be closed on Wednesday, September 30 for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The office will reopen October 1.

Have you seen these PFDs around Peachland? 👀

Thanks to a donation of safety gear from Bombardier Recreational Products, these lifejackets have found a home at two loaner stations in District of Peachland. This is only the beginning—there are plenty of lifejackets from our donation program being distributed across BC and Yukon!

What a wonderful time we had at the Union of BC Municipalities Convention!

We had insightful conversations about water safety, displayed a mock-up of a Lifejacket Loaner Station, and zipped-and-clipped our lifejackets for many photos, with attendees like Terry Yung, Josie Osborne, Susie Chant - North Vancouver Seymour, Stephanie Higginson, Brent Asmundson from City of Coquitlam - Municipality, Kristi Cooper from Town of Golden, Bob Wells from City of Courtenay, Michael Lott from Village of Gold River, Alison Evans and Mike Hayes from City of Pitt Meadows, Richard T. Lee, Maita Santiago, and Daniel Tetrault from City of Burnaby - Local Government, ICBC, and YMCA BC.

It was amazing to connect with delegates who support our mission of drowning prevention. Special shout-out to all the current and former lifeguards with leadership skills from aquatics that they bring to their roles in local government!

Today, September 12, is World First Aid Day. 🩹❤️‍🩹

In addition to swim lessons and lifeguard training, Lifesaving Society first aid courses are available throughout BC & Yukon. These courses will give you the tools to confidently respond to emergencies, prevent injuries, and save lives.
