We're still on a hummingbird high after spending the morning with our Park Partners at Vancouver Avian Research Centre during a Hummingbird Banding Day at ƛ̓éxətəm Regional Park. From seeing hummingbirds up close to learning about migration, research, and conservation, it was a reminder of just how amazing these tiny visitors really are.

Events like these help connect people with nature while supporting important research that helps us better understand and protect bird populations across our region.

Want to help birds in Metro Vancouver's Regional Parks?

• Support organizations and programs that protect habitat and connect people to nature (like the Foundation and VARC!)
• Plant native flowers that provide food and shelter
• Add a clean water source to your yard or balcony
• Keep cats indoors or supervised outdoors
• Make windows more bird-friendly to reduce collisions

A huge thank you to Vancouver Avian Research Centre for sharing their expertise and passion with the community. We can't wait for the next one!

2026 Hummingbird Banding Days:
• June 20
• July 11
• August 15

This we are hopping on a ferry and headed west! ⛴️

We are excited to be collaborating with the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC for BC Trails Day on Saturday, June 6th to celebrate the recent expansion of the Dorman Point Hiking Trail, located within Crippen Regional Park.

Stop by our booth, say hello, and tell us what matters to you when it comes to trails and parks. You might even learn a thing or two about the Dorman Point Trail and its rare, sensitive coastal ecosystem. (Did you know is home to glass sponge reefs — ancient, living structures once thought to be extinct?)

We’ll also be sharing trail safety, etiquette, and the important work that has been done to support Crippen Regional Park and enhance your trail experience.

Hope to see you out there!

The REEL Earth Day Challenge has wrapped its 6th year, and once again, the B.C. film industry has turned “on location” into real impact for regional parks! Together with Reel Green™ at Creative BC and Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Foundation, this year’s Challenge is supporting meaningful conservation and community programs across Metro Vancouver.

This year’s impact includes $85,000 raised to date, with a total of over $640,000 raised since inception, supporting 9 funded park projects in 2026.

🏆 Congratulations to production team Calm Current, who led the way with an incredible $23,940 raised. Thank you for setting the bar for this year’s Challenge and becoming our 2026 Champions!

2026 funded projects include:

• Picnic in the Park Programming
• Mishkoopitum Indigenous-led Summer Camps
• Learning Space Habitat Restoration
• Coastal Foreshore Restoration
• Ecoblitz Stewardship Activities
• Trail Education & Welcome Program
• Shoreline Stabilization & Native Species Planting
• Muench Bar Riparian Restoration
• Native Plant Corridor Restoration

Every production filmed here in Metro Vancouver leaves more than just a scene behind. It helps build healthier, more resilient parks for everyone.
Thank you to all sponsors, teams and donors who made this year’s impact possible!

We have a little love for you to check out during your next trip down Trans Canada Highway 1! 🌎

With the help of an $8,510 sponsorship from Reel Green™, the Native Plant Corridor Restoration project at Tynehead Regional Park is now funded! This project is transforming a busy, exposed stretch of parkland along a highway into a thriving green corridor that brings nature back into the landscape.

What was once a noisy edge of the trail is steadily becoming a peaceful, living buffer thanks to years of thoughtful restoration. In 2026, this next phase will bring the community together to plant hundreds of native plants across new garden beds, helping to soften sound, support wildlife, and enhance the natural beauty of the space.

Over time, this corridor will continue to grow into a vibrant, welcoming pathway where visitors can slow down, connect with nature, and experience restoration in action.

While the REEL Earth Day Challenge has officially wrapped, you can still celebrate Earth Day and make a donation to park projects like these at the link below!
