It’s National Volunteer Week, and this year’s theme is Ignite Volunteerism! From April 19 to 25, we're celebrating the power of volunteers to spark connection, belonging, and positive change in their communities. 💪

From organizing year-round programs and events to coaching athletes on the playing fields, thank you to our outstanding volunteers who pour their hearts into everything they do. You inspire us, and you truly make a difference. 💙

In celebration of the week, we invite all current volunteers to nominate a fellow volunteer who has made a positive impact. This is your opportunity to showcase the amazing volunteers in your community and help us celebrate them. If your nominee is selected as a winner, you will also receive a prize! We will randomly select one winner from each SOBC Region. 🤩

On April 2, we recognize World Autism Acceptance Day, a day to celebrate neurodiversity, promote understanding, and encourage inclusion for people on the autism spectrum.💙

Meet Adam Advocaat, pictured center, a Special Olympics Team BC 2026 Training Squad softball player. He will be competing at the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta in August.

“My parents were looking for a way for me to be involved in sports after I was diagnosed with autism, and this is what they found for me. I started with soccer, and since then I’ve been part of over ten different programs over the last 29 years,” said Adam.

“Being a part of Special Olympics Team BC means representing my fellow athletes, the province, and Special Olympics BC with pride, dignity and respectfulness. It means putting my best foot forward, giving my best effort and upholding the Special Olympics Athletes' Oath for all of B.C.”
