Reflecting on 25 years of impact! đź’™

Looking back at our story with Community Counselling Centre of London and Good News Church. Through our NewGround partnership, they were able to offer affordable and often completely free therapy to neighbors who couldn't otherwise afford standard rates.

Stories like this remind us why we do what we do: helping local churches bring real hope and relief to their communities.

We are so grateful for partnerships that help relieve the financial burden of care and bring real hope to our neighbors.

Deacon ministry isn't meant to be a solo effort.

Rather than simply performing diaconal work on behalf of the church, deacons serve as catalysts and equippers, mobilizing the whole congregation to fulfill its mission.

Through stewardship, justice work, local community engagement, and mercy, deacons help bridge the gap between faith and action in our everyday neighborhoods.

Swipe through to see the four foundational ways deacons inspire and lead congregations into local community impact!

Our NewGround Coordinator recently visited Mission Montreal to celebrate 3 years of fruitful partnership! đź’›

From local community gardens (including one at Cathédrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde!) to a Solidarity Market offering fresh produce at scaled pricing, Mission Montreal is reimagining sacred spaces. It’s not just about food access, it’s about walking alongside neighbors with dignity, empowering youth, and creating spaces where everyone is known by name. 🥖🌱

Thank you, team, for your heart, innovation, and commitment to serving your city with warmth! Though our formal funding partnership is wrapping up, the roots planted here run deep.

Praise God for His continued faithfulness! 🙌

"Each day I want to walk into the good things God has prepared in advance for me to do." — John Wildeboer.

Whether it’s remembering a receptionist’s name or offering encouragement in a grocery store line, small acts of noticing others carry profound value. Science calls it social diffusion. We call it the ripple effect.

How can you walk into God’s "good works" today?

Please join us in prayer for communities across Canada. 🙏

This summer, so many of our neighbors across the country are facing immense hardship due to severe weather disasters. We are lifting up communities impacted by wildfires in British Columbia (including Vernon & Summerland), heavy flooding in Niagara, and fire destruction affecting First Nations and Northern Ontario.

As a diaconal community, our hearts ache for all who have been displaced, lost homes, or are living under the stress of ongoing evacuations. We pray for safety for first responders, comfort for those grieving, and strength for local churches as they offer care and practical support.

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." — Psalm 46:1

We pray for communities across the U.S. Midwest, from Iowa to Ohio.

Please join us in prayer for communities across the U.S. Midwest following a powerful derecho (wind storm) and severe flooding. From Iowa to Ohio, damaging winds, tornadoes, fallen trees, widespread power outages, and flooding have left families facing loss and a long road to recovery. Tragically, seven people have lost their lives.

As communities begin to clean up and rebuild, please pray with us:

🙏 Pray for the families grieving the loss of loved ones, that God would surround them with comfort, strength, and hope.
🙏 Pray for families whose homes have been damaged by flooding, tornadoes, and fallen trees, and for those still without power or safe housing.
🙏 Pray for emergency personnel, utility crews, volunteers, and neighbours working to clear debris, restore power, and help affected communities.
🙏 Pray for God’s provision in the weeks and months ahead as families repair homes, prevent mold, rebuild infrastructure, and begin recovering from this storm.

May God be near to every family affected and give strength to the communities walking through recovery together. đź’ś

In Matthew 25, Jesus makes a profound connection: the way we treat the vulnerable is direct reflection of our love for Him.

For deacons, church leaders, and volunteers, this verse serves as both a comfort and a challenge. It calls us beyond good intentions and drives us toward tangible, relational, and compassionate action right in our local communities.

Every community project, budget coaching session, and helping hand stems from this simple truth: serving others is serving Christ.

THROWBACK TIME!
How many people in this photo can you name?
Do you know where this was taken?

Drop your guesses in the comments.
Tag someone who was there so they can weigh in too.

More throwbacks are coming as we count down to our big October 17 celebration.
Stay tuned! đź’š

We made the drive out to Pregnancy & Family Care of Quinte West this week for our wrap-up visit and it was worth every mile.

Three years ago, this team was in a different building. Newground's years of partnership supported the team as they launched a capital funding campaign to move locations and develop a strategic plan for the new space where connection and belonging for families could happen.

Today, they're in a space built for connection and it's working. Moms who met through the Centre's coffee and connect program are now doing life together, supporting each other through parenthood.

We're endlessly grateful for this opportunity to walk alongside this community. This is the fruit of breaking new ground together and we can't wait to see what grows next.

Our Newground coordinator, Amy, had a great time today visiting Pregnancy and Family Care of Quinte West.

It was really beautiful to see the new space and feel the warmth and care emanating from the staff, volunteers and the physical environment itself.
