We had a great morning at the Co-op/OYAP/SHSM Career Fair at Lakeshore Catholic High School in Port Colborne!

Students explored career pathways, connected with local employers and community partners, and learned about opportunities in the skilled trades. We were excited to share ApprenticeSearch and Ontario Career Lab resources and discuss the many pathways available after high school.

As the Skills Canada National Competition 2026 comes to a close, we'd like to congratulate all competitors, organizers, volunteers, educators, and industry partners who helped make this year's event such a success.

We've had the opportunity to connect with students, apprentices, workforce development leaders, educators, employers, and government representatives from across Canada who share a commitment to strengthening the future of skilled trades and technologies.

We were also pleased to attend the Closing Ceremonies this morning, where apprenticesearch.com Executive Director Kelly Hoey and Director of Operations Michelle Murray joined Dr. Cindy Gouveia, President of Sheridan College, in celebrating the achievements of competitors and the impact of skilled trades education.

A special congratulations to Mike Gordon, Director of Canadian Training for UA Canada, on receiving the CCDA Award, a well-deserved recognition of leadership and contributions to the skilled trades community.

We attended a fantastic kickoff at the Skills for Success Forum, where conversations focused on building the future workforce and supporting career success in the skilled trades and technologies.

That’s a wrap on the 2026 Skills Ontario Competition! 🎉

We had an amazing time connecting with students this week and helping them explore careers in the skilled trades.

From building roller coasters with Make-Do kits to speaking with students about apprenticeship pathways and opportunities in the trades, it was inspiring to see so much creativity, curiosity, and enthusiasm.

To wrap up the competition, our Executive Director, Kelly Hoey, spoke at the Closing Ceremony this morning and presented medals to the Motive Sector award winners, recognizing the outstanding achievements of Ontario students pursuing the skilled trades. Congratulations to all competitors!

Strong turnout today at the Skilled Trades Provincial Advisory Meeting at the Skills Canada - Ontario Competition in Toronto.

We’ve already heard from Andrew Bieler, Director of Partnerships and Experiential Learning at the Business + Higher Education Roundtable, and are now listening to an insightful Industry Panel discussion before hosting our Advisory Dialogue and Networking session to address gaps in the skilled trades workforce.

It’s almost a full room, with educators and employers coming together to share ideas and strengthen work-integrated learning opportunities for students.

Lots of thoughtful conversations and momentum around experiential learning and pathways into the skilled trades!
