Another wonderful Tuesday breakfast served by our Rotarians, friends, and family. 🧇

As the school year winds down, we are especially proud of the weekly dedication shown by our members and volunteers. Providing healthy food choices for our school children is a small act of service that makes a meaningful difference.

Seeing the children happy and well-fed reminds us why we do what we do. 🙏

🌟 The Central Coast shaped an Oscar winner — and Rotary made it happen.

Before the Oscars, before the fame, there was Warnervale.

In 1988, a fresh-faced 18-year-old Texan named Matthew McConaughey stepped off a plane expecting Sydney. Instead, he found himself in a small Central Coast town — and it changed his life forever.

Here as a Rotary Youth Exchange student in District 9685, Matthew attended Gorokan High School and threw himself into whatever work he could find, from tending a pea farm to serving customers as an ANZ bank teller. No glamour, no shortcuts — just a young man learning what life was really about.

By his own account, that year on the Central Coast gave him something no classroom could — the perspective and self-knowledge to pursue acting over law or even a monastery. Not a bad return on a Rotary exchange! 😄

He later reflected on these formative experiences in his bestselling memoir Greenlights, a fascinating read that shines a new light on a part of the world we're lucky enough to call home.

This is exactly why Rotary Youth Exchange matters. The experiences we give young people have a way of rippling outward in ways we can barely imagine.

💬 Have you read Greenlights? Did you know about Matthew's Central Coast connection? Drop a comment below — we'd love to hear your thoughts!

Congratulations to all the recipients. Burlington is stronger because of your service.

A special thank you to our keynote speaker, Fareen Samji, a former Rotarian and dedicated Friend of Rotary. Fareen shared a powerful personal story about growing up with her Rotarian father and how Rotary shaped so much of her life.

Her message was simple and deeply meaningful.

Rotary may not solve every problem in the world. But we can solve one problem at a time. Create one impact at a time. Give one person one more chance at a time.

Because if we do nothing, nothing changes. But when we try, we can create lasting impact.

The morning also included a special celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Burlington, Burlington’s original Rotary club. President Nancy Sumaruk offered heartfelt thanks, and longtime Rotarian Peter French shared the club’s legacy with passion, pride, and nearly four decades of Rotary service behind him.

We were also honoured to welcome more than 100 guests, including Mayor Marianne Meed Ward, Councillors Rory Nisan, Lisa Kearns, and Angelo Bentivegna, along with Rotarians, community leaders, friends, and supporters.

A heartfelt thank you to Rotarians Sheila, Owen, Graham, and Susan, the Paul Harris Community Service Awards Breakfast Committee, for organizing such a meaningful and memorable event.

Thank you as well to all five Burlington Rotary clubs, our guests, YourTV Halton, Burlington Today, and the Holiday Inn for helping make this event so special.

See you again in 2027.

Service Above Self 🙏🏼

Congratulations Meaghan!

Congratulations to Meaghan on receiving the Paul Harris Community Service Award from Rotary Club of Burlington Central — a truly well deserved recognition.

For more than a decade, Meaghan has been a steady and passionate leader at Food for Life, helping shape and strengthen our mission to ensure neighbours experiencing food insecurity have access to fresh, healthy food with dignity. Our team is incredibly grateful to learn from and work alongside someone who leads with both purpose and heart every single day. Meaghan’s dedication to collaboration, food access, and community care truly reflects the spirit of “Service Above Self.”

Congratulations, Meaghan, and thank you for all that you do for Food for Life and our community.
