"Canada Day is a reminder of the many ways people show up for each other across this country. Over the last few weeks, I have been in cabs, Ubers, at restaurants, on planes, at the grocery store, work and other places talking about FIFA. No matter who I talked to, where they came from, all were so proud to be Canadian and to cheer on our team (maybe with a second one too). So, on Canada Day today, I reflect on the importance of community. That can look like a small business opening its doors each morning, neighbours or teams coming together to support each other and like we have over the last few weeks, celebrating the international-ness of the people we are. It’s also a day to reflect that the first peoples of this land have suffered and endure lasting impacts of colonization, and we need to keep learning, listening, and ensuring we help move forward in a better way.
