Chess Federation of Canada The CFC is operated by a paid executive director and a volunteer board elected yearly by voting The CFC is affiliated with the World Chess Federation (FIDE).

The Chess Federation of Canada (CFC), founded in 1872, is a non-profit corporation whose mandate is to promote and encourage the knowledge, study and play of the game of chess in Canada. The Chess Federation of Canada is the governing body for chess is Canada. The CFC organizes National Championships (Canadian Closed, Canadian Womenโ€™s Closed, Canadian Junior and Canadian Youth Chess Championships), and raises funds for the winners to go on to the respective World Championships. In addition, the CFC has sent a team to FIDE's Chess Olympiad each time it has been held (every second year) since 1964.

"I was in New York City visiting a friend many years ago and went out for coffee one morning. At 8 a.m. on the corner of Amsterdam and 72nd Street, I saw Bruce Pandolfini waiting for a bus. I had never met him before, but I certainly knew his face, and he knew mine. We both gave each other a solemn head nod as we went about our way. The next morning at exactly 8 a.m., I was back on Amsterdam and 72nd getting coffee, and lo and behold, I saw Bruce about to catch the bus again. This time it was clear someone had to say something. Bruce walked up to me, and said, 'You know, if we see each other tomorrow, it will be a draw by repetition."
