Chess Federation of Canada The CFC is operated by a paid executive director and a volunteer board elected yearly by voting The CFC is affiliated with the World Chess Federation (FIDE).

The Chess Federation of Canada (CFC), founded in 1872, is a non-profit corporation whose mandate is to promote and encourage the knowledge, study and play of the game of chess in Canada. The Chess Federation of Canada is the governing body for chess is Canada. The CFC organizes National Championships (Canadian Closed, Canadian Women’s Closed, Canadian Junior and Canadian Youth Chess Championships)

, and raises funds for the winners to go on to the respective World Championships. In addition, the CFC has sent a team to FIDE's Chess Olympiad each time it has been held (every second year) since 1964.

On June 16, the opening ceremony of the FIDE World Cup under 8–12 was held. The competition is taking place at the 5 star hotels “Grand Bellagio” and “Euphoria”, with around 700 participants from 68 countries.

♟️ 2026 CFC Subsidy Program — Applications Open NOW!

The Chess Federation of Canada (CFC), in partnership with Juniors to Masters Chess Academy (JtM), is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 CFC Subsidy Program.

The CFC will provide a $500 subsidy to a select group of serious junior players to be used toward tuition for JtM's intensive National Youth Training Program. Successful applicants will receive the $500 subsidy and will be responsible for the remaining portion of their tuition ($500 + GST/HST).

This program is designed for dedicated young players looking to train in a structured environment, learn from top-tier coaches, and develop the skills to compete at the Provincial, National, and International levels. Training is delivered by GM Gergely Szabo (Team Canada Head Coach) and JtM In-House Masters.

⏰ Deadline: Friday, July 31, 2026

🌎 The XV Pan American U7-U17 Chess Championship 2026
The XV Pan American U7-U17 Chess Championship 2026 just finished in El Salvador. The championship is being held from May 11–18, 2026, in Sonsonate, with games taking place at the beautiful Hotel Royal Decameron in Playa Salinitas.
More than 400 talented young players from 25 countries have gathered to compete across the U07 to U17 categories, creating an atmosphere filled with focus, determination, strategy, and sportsmanship.
Team Canada is proudly represented by a delegation of 31 players, all competing with dedication and pride on the international stage.
We are excited to cheer on our team throughout the championship.
