What does it look like when a city treats safe mobility as a fundamental human right?

We are incredibly excited to announce Barkha R. Patel as a keynote speaker for the upcoming Ontario Bike Summit in Toronto.

Barkha is a local government leader and urban planning professional who recently served as the Director of Infrastructure for Jersey City, New Jersey—one of the most densely populated and diverse cities in the U.S. As the city's first Infrastructure Director, she centralized the oversight of all public spaces, leading a team responsible for over $600 million in capital improvements.

Under her leadership, Jersey City achieved a remarkable milestone: a full year with zero traffic fatalities. Her team achieved this through an iterative, fast-paced approach, scaling projects rapidly from pop-up interventions to pilots, and finally to permanent, life-saving infrastructure.

At OBS, Barkha will share how mid-sized communities with limited resources can achieve Vision Zero, and close the gap between policy goals and physical infrastructure, centering the people who have been pushed to the margins of our streets and designing spaces that offer dignity to all.

Don’t miss this vital conversation on how we can build safe, sustainable, and people-centered public spaces.

- The first provincial cycling policy in decades -
- Critical legislative wins to protect road users
- Over $125 million in infrastructure funding for Ontario municipalities

When you join us at in Toronto this September, you aren’t just attending a conference. You are stepping into a legacy of real, lasting change.

On-the-street. Behind-the-scenes. Solutions in motion.

At the Ontario Bike Summit, the city is our classroom!

What makes the Ontario Bike Summit so special? We trade the boardroom for the bike lane. Our Mobile Workshops will take the Summit to the streets to explore Toronto’s latest infrastructure wins firsthand—by bike, scooter, and on foot.

Since our 2026 venue is right on The Esplanade, you’re perfectly positioned to dive into the city’s evolving streetscape from the moment you arrive. These aren't just rides; they are guided tours led by the experts who planned and designed these projects.

It’s the ultimate way to:
See exactly how complex challenges were solved.

Feel the flow of different infrastructure types for yourself.

Ask the "how" and "why" while standing right on the asphalt.

Heads up: These tours have limited capacity and always fill up fast. Register now so you can have first crack at sign-ups the moment they open!

🚲 The theme for the 2026 Ontario Bike Summit in Toronto is Inspiring the Future: Building Liveable Cities Through Cycling.

Cycling is about more than just transit; it is a tool for health, community resilience, and economic vibrancy. This year, we are bringing together leaders from across the province to discuss how smart cycling design and infrastructure act as catalysts for urban transformation.

Our program focuses on making Ontario more:

Connected and Accessible: Developing networks for all ages and abilities.

Healthy and Vibrant: Reclaiming public spaces to support local well-being.

Resilient and Future-Ready: Preparing for the next generation of mobility - e-bikes, cargo bikes, e-scooters and autonomous vehicles.

The 2026 Ontario Bike Summit is where we share the best practices that make our communities safer and more connected - and learn from jurisdictions and organizations who are leading the way.
