Conservation Halton was established more than 60 years ago to protect our communities from flooding and erosion and manage and restore natural resources of the watershed. Today, it is our responsibility to prepare our communities for the impacts of climate change, support our partners in creating more sustainable communities, manage our natural areas and resources within the watershed, monitor and

enhance the environmental health of our watershed and create opportunities to connect with nature through recreation and education.

The goats and sheep have arrived at Kelso/Glen Eden to begin munching away at the grass! 🐐🐑

Today, our natural grazing project gets underway, with these animals working onsite until September 2 to help manage vegetation near Kelso Dam and on part of the ski hill. While guests are welcome to watch them, they should not interact with the animals or disturb them in any way.

If you do come out to the park, please abide by these rules:

DOS
✅ Watch the animals from a safe distance
✅ Keep children closely supervised around the animals
✅ Give the animals plenty of space while they work

DON'TS
❌ Do not touch or pet the animals
❌ Do not feed them or give them treats
❌ Do not approach, touch, or lean on the electric fence
❌ Do not throw anything into the fenced area
❌ Do not enter the fenced area at any time

Happy International Dog Day! 🐶

Dogs make some of the best companions, especially when spending time outdoors! Today, we're celebrating all dogs and the joy, companionship and adventure they bring to our lives. We're also featuring some four-legged friends enjoying our parks. A special thank you to our staff who shared these wonderful photos of their dogs. 🐾

If you're heading to one of our parks with your dog to celebrate, please remember to keep them on a leash no longer than 2 m (6 ft) and stay on marked trails.

Give your pup some extra love from us today. We're sure they wouldn't say no to a little time in nature, an extra treat, or a belly rub. 💛

Join us for the Kelso Ascension Challenge, our inaugural trail running event, on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Kelso Conservation Area.

Experience the beauty of the escarpment while testing your endurance on Kelso's scenic trails. With timed-loop races for runners of all levels, relay options for teams, plus a fun-filled 500 m Children's Vertical Race for ages 6 to 10, there's a challenge for everyone.

The Conservation Halton Science and Monitoring crew has just landed a new world record Fantail Darter while electrofishing!

This impressive fish was captured at one of our long-term monitoring sites on Willoughby Creek and measured 93 mm (9.3 cm), surpassing both the previous Ontario record of 8.2 cm and the previous world record of 8.4 cm.

Healthy streams start with protecting the fish that live in them. Before stream restoration begins, Conservation Halton’s monitoring team safely moves fish out of the work area using non-lethal methods, including backpack electrofishing, nets, and careful handling.

The team captures, identifies, measures, and releases fish into another part of the stream, with proper permits and timing to help reduce impacts on local species. This year, fish rescues will support projects in the Sixteen Mile Creek and Bronte Creek watersheds, helping protect local species and support healthier habitats. At Ways of the Woods, we're fortunate to have so many young leaders making a difference, from Counsellor in Training (CIT) volunteers taking their first steps in leadership to counsellors who guide and inspire campers each day.

Their commitment, creativity and willingness to learn help create meaningful and memorable camp experiences while building skills that will serve them and their communities for years to come.
