TERRY FOX - CANADIAN ICON
"Even if I don't finish, we need others to keep going. It's got to keep going.” - Terry Fox, July 10, 1980
The iconic image of Terry Fox running long and lonely roads during the 143 days of his Marathon of Hope does not convey the full picture of that historic effort. If the photographer were to widen his lens, there would appear the tens, hundreds, even thousands of Canadians lining those very roads cheering Terry on and taking inspiration from his example. Terry Fox ran through Burlington along what is now Lakeshore Road on July 13th, 1980. We are honoured to have him stop in our city during his Marathon of Hope! It has since become a fall tradition in Canada to gather your friends and family, lace on your shoes, bring our pledge sheets and attend your favourite Terry Fox Run site. All money raised by the Terry Fox Run is directed in Terry's name to fund cancer research.
