Huge thanks to everyone who came out to support the Burk’s Falls and District Fire Department against the Muskoka Hornets 13U! It was an awesome night of community spirit and competition, and we really appreciate everyone who made the atmosphere so fun.
Some of us are definitely finding out this morning that we aren't as young as we used to be. If you see one of our firefighters moving especially slow today, just know they left it all on the field (and are likely currently attached to an ice pack).
Best of luck to the Hornets on the rest of their season—you guys played a great game! We’ll be rooting for you. 🚒⚾️

🚒 Ice Storm Safety Reminder – Burk’s Falls & Area 🚒

With freezing rain, ice buildup, and possible power outages expected, the Burk’s Falls Firefighters Association would like to remind residents to use extra caution with heating sources during this storm.

🔥 Safe Heating Tips:

• Never use BBQs, propane heaters, camp stoves, or generators inside homes, garages, or near windows/doors

• Keep all fuel-burning heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn

• Ensure wood stoves and fireplaces are properly vented and chimneys are clear

• Turn off portable heaters when sleeping or leaving the room

• Never overload electrical outlets

☠️ Carbon Monoxide Safety:

• Make sure carbon monoxide alarms are working on every level of your home

• CO is odorless and invisible — symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, and confusion

• If a CO alarm sounds or symptoms appear, get outside to fresh air immediately and call 911

⚠️ Also remember:

• Treat downed power lines as live — stay back and call 911

• Keep driveways and access points clear for emergency vehicles

• Check on elderly or vulnerable neighbours during outages
