Walk for Judy - ALS Walk Strong

Walk for Judy - ALS Walk Strong Walk for Judy is an annual walk in Brookfield, NS, to raise money for the ALS Society of NB and NS. We love her so much - her memory and spirit live on, always.

Our mom, Judy Kelly-Carter, passed away in May 2025 after a courageous battle with bulbar ALS.

đź’ś Our Biggest Walk Weekend of the Year Starts Today đź’ś

Today marks the beginning of our busiest ALS Walk Strong weekend of the year.

This weekend, we have a record-setting 8 walks taking place across New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, beginning tonight with our St. George walk at 5:30 p.m.

If you are near any of this weekend’s walk locations, we would love to have you join us. All are welcome, and you do not need to sign up to take part. Come out, be part of the fun, and help show your support for individuals and families living with ALS.

We cannot wait to see our communities come together all weekend long. đź’ś

Good morning! We’re officially just one week away from our ALS Walk! If you’re unable to participate in the walk itself, we’d still love to have you join us. Many people will be gathering at the fire hall, and everyone is welcome. Come enjoy the company, show your support, and be part of the day. Homemade goodies are always appreciated; there’s never a shortage of food at Carter events! Tea/coffee will be provided by Brookfield Tim Hortons (thank you for supporting us again this year)! We also encourage those who want to bring their own sign (bristol board) with their own message for the walk. We will provide some, but if you want to bring a personalized one, please do!

If you have a loved one who is currently battling ALS or who has passed away from the disease, please feel free to bring a photo. We will have a memory table set up to honor and remember those affected.

Thank you the continued community support, and we look forward to seeing everyone next week. We’ll be there rain or shine, and we hope to see you there. 💜 Feel free to share!

1 year ago today, our dear Mom, Judy, passed away. She fought unimaginable symptoms of bulbar ALS for 3 years (we believe it was a lot longer). She is the strength that carries us through each day. A beautiful person filled with love, light and gentleness, with a fierce will to live. She is the reason we walk in Brookfield, to honour her memory and raise funds for ALS Society of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Please join us June 7th, 2026 for the ALS walk this year. đź’•

We grieved Mom while she was still alive. It was devastating to watch her slowly fade away. I feel for anyone who has to go through similar situations. Even still, grief doesn’t feel easier.. it just changes, evolves, over time.

Caring for someone with ALS can mean grieving losses that happen slowly over time while your loved one is still right beside you.

Good Saturday Afternoon Everyone:

I'm home today watching ALS Walk Strong Donations come in, someone is fundraising and lots of someone(s) are responding. Thank you, thank you.

June is ALS Awareness Month and it's just right around the corner.

George used to spend his days out in the community he loved — visiting friends, sharing stories, staying connected.

Mike was involved in his community, with his children’s school, especially.

Then ALS changed everything.

But because of people like you, George and Mike didn’t lose everything.
Because you walk.
Because you donate.
Because you care.
George received a power tilt wheelchair — giving him the freedom to get outside again, to feel the sun on his face, to be part of his community.
He still visited with friends.
Mike was still able to speak to local students about resilience and what it means to face challenges head-on.
They both found ways to give back.

And at home, something even more important is happening.
People with ALS and PLS are making memories with their families.
Quiet moments. Shared meals. Conversations that matter.
Moments that might not have been possible without the right support.
This year’s Walk Strong theme is “Making Memories at Home.”
And that’s exactly what you make possible.
Because of your support, we can provide equipment, education, and care — from wheelchairs and communication devices to feeding tube support, breathing equipment, caregiver training, and more — all at no cost.
You are part of all the many wonderful and inspiring stories.
There are so many ways to help:

This June, you’re not just raising awareness.
You’re giving George — and so many others — more time at home.
More connection.
More memories.
And that means everything.

đź’ś A Small Ask for Our New Office Space đź’ś

We are currently looking for a few furniture pieces to help complete one of our client meeting rooms.

If anyone in our community has a small loveseat, chair, coffee table, or bookcase they would be willing to donate, we would be so grateful. Items would need to come from a local, smoke-free, and pet-free home.

We are happy to arrange pickup. If you have something available or know someone who might, please send us a message. Even a share would mean a lot.
