They emphasize not only the athleticism and artistry of dance but also the life skills that carry far beyond the stage. Hard work, patience, teamwork, and kindness. Katie has created an environment where dancers can thrive both as performers and as individuals.

👋 Meet Cecilia Clapson, a 2025 40 Under 40 honouree! 💛

Originally from Scotland, Cecilia moved to Brockville in 2010 and started to serve clients in the community in the employment field.

Since then, Cecilia transitioned to working in the Victim Services sector and worked as a Sexual Assault Support Counsellor, providing frontline practical and emotional supports to victims of Sexual Assault.

While this field was not where she thought she would be working, she developed a passion for advocation, support and partnership while in this role. Supporting Victims of crime and tragic circumstances highlights the difficult things people face on a day to day basis in our community, however it has also spotlights the resilience, support and collaboration that happens here too.

Now the Executive Director of Victim Services of Leeds and Grenville, Cecilia continues to focus on partnership within Leeds and Grenville, believing that it takes a community to work together and provide wraparound services and supports to our most vulnerable people. She has taken this on this role with kindness, compassion, humour and humility and leads a team of wonderful people who share her passion to help others.

Cecilia is incredibly proud of and honoured to lead the Victim Services team who dedicate their time to supporting clients at whatever stage they are at. She wants to acknowledge and to Thank the team for their ongoing hard work and dedication. This work is hard but this team is strong, kind and compassionate and makes a difference in the lives of people every single day.

Recently Cecilia was successful with her first grant application that has brought a new pilot program to Leeds and Grenville. This program focuses on combating Intimate Partner Violence through education, resources and collaboration of community partners. She is very proud to have been successful with this grant application which really focused on the unique needs and dynamics of a rural community.

With a focus on partnership and collaboration, Cecilia also Chairs the Leeds and Grenville Situation Table as well as the Anti Violence Coalition of Leeds and Grenville. She is also part of numerous other community tables that address the needs and gaps in service for clients navigating services in the community.

Maya Angelou once said: “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” This quote has resonated with Cecilia throughout her career and is a philosophy that she continues to live and work by. She is dedicated to ongoing learning and professional development so that she can always be doing better to help people.

Cecilia is honoured to have been named one of Brockville’s 40 Under 40 and is grateful to those who have supported, mentored and guided her through finding her feet as an Executive Director.

She is also thankful for the support she has received from the Leeds and Grenville community throughout her career.

🌟 Meet Mekayla Lennox, a 2025 40 Under 40 honouree! 🌟

Mekayla is the proud owner of Mekayla’s Fancy Sweets, a home-based bakery that has achieved the necessary inspections and approvals to operate. Raised on the outskirts of Brockville, she has maintained a deep connection to her community throughout her life, which continues to strengthen as she advances in her endeavors. Her passion for baking was kindled by her late grandmother's influence, and she has diligently refined her craft through self-education, experimentation, and unwavering support. What began with simple treats such as chocolate-dipped strawberries and modest chocolate smash hearts has since evolved into a venture that exceeds her initial aspirations, offering a diverse array of confections that reflect both her dedication and growth.

Allowing her to be a part of memorable moments in lives such as birthdays, weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, baptisms, work celebrations, and so much more, she is grateful for all of those who have supported the journey. Following the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, she leveraged baking as a positive outlet, a way to deal with the new ""norm."" Being able to find happiness in something that was once so small to her has led her to where she is today, and though the times were once rough, she is thankful for where she is now. During that time, she also completed two college diplomas in Pre-Health and Early Childhood Education through Brockville and Kingston's St. Lawrence College.

Currently, she balances work as a part-time early childhood educator and a support worker at the local shelter while running her business and raising her almost two-year-old daughter.

In her free time, she can be found with her fiancé and daughter. They are a very outdoorsy family, with a passion for fishing, hiking, exploring, and more. Whether they are seeking a new adventure or simply enjoying each other's company, they are typically found outdoors. While life may seem busy, it is the exact life she aspired for, and she has learned to stop and take in each moment.

What started as something so small has now grown into more than she could have asked for. The community’s support has been everything and more to her, and the reason she continues. Each year, her small business looks for ways to give back to the community, and they find joy in the ability to give back when they can. Their fundraisers are solely based on the community’s support, and without that support, they would not be able to give like they do.

They look forward to many more rewarding years, serving the community while meeting so many positive and encouraging members.

🎉 Celebrate Mekayla and all of this year’s honourees at the 7th Annual YPN 40 Under 40 Awards — happening Friday, October 24th at the Brockville Legion. Enjoy a buffet dinner, awards ceremony, and an evening celebrating Brockville’s rising leaders.
