🌟 Meet Mekayla Lennox, a 2025 40 Under 40 honouree! 🌟
Mekayla is the proud owner of Mekayla’s Fancy Sweets, a home-based bakery that has achieved the necessary inspections and approvals to operate. Raised on the outskirts of Brockville, she has maintained a deep connection to her community throughout her life, which continues to strengthen as she advances in her endeavors. Her passion for baking was kindled by her late grandmother's influence, and she has diligently refined her craft through self-education, experimentation, and unwavering support. What began with simple treats such as chocolate-dipped strawberries and modest chocolate smash hearts has since evolved into a venture that exceeds her initial aspirations, offering a diverse array of confections that reflect both her dedication and growth.
Allowing her to be a part of memorable moments in lives such as birthdays, weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, baptisms, work celebrations, and so much more, she is grateful for all of those who have supported the journey. Following the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, she leveraged baking as a positive outlet, a way to deal with the new ""norm."" Being able to find happiness in something that was once so small to her has led her to where she is today, and though the times were once rough, she is thankful for where she is now. During that time, she also completed two college diplomas in Pre-Health and Early Childhood Education through Brockville and Kingston's St. Lawrence College.
Currently, she balances work as a part-time early childhood educator and a support worker at the local shelter while running her business and raising her almost two-year-old daughter.
In her free time, she can be found with her fiancé and daughter. They are a very outdoorsy family, with a passion for fishing, hiking, exploring, and more. Whether they are seeking a new adventure or simply enjoying each other's company, they are typically found outdoors. While life may seem busy, it is the exact life she aspired for, and she has learned to stop and take in each moment.
What started as something so small has now grown into more than she could have asked for. The community’s support has been everything and more to her, and the reason she continues. Each year, her small business looks for ways to give back to the community, and they find joy in the ability to give back when they can. Their fundraisers are solely based on the community’s support, and without that support, they would not be able to give like they do.
They look forward to many more rewarding years, serving the community while meeting so many positive and encouraging members.
