The OFMF would like to welcome and introduce our new General Manager Kevin Good. Welcome to the OFMF, Kevin! Below is Kevin's introduction:

Good Afternoon,

My name is Kevin Good, and I’m honoured to step into the role of General Manager for the Ontario Fur Managers Federation. I bring a background in natural resources research and management, along with a lifelong passion for wildlife and the outdoors.

Over the past 20+ years, I’ve worked in ecosystem research with the Canadian Forest Service, contributing to studies that support sustainable forest management across northern Ontario. Earlier in my career, I spent several years teaching wilderness survival and outdoor skills to a wide range of groups.

In addition to my professional experience, I’ve volunteered in search and rescue, policing, and firefighting roles, strengthening my commitment to community service and safety.

I’m excited to build on the Federation’s strong foundation, support its members, and promote responsible, sustainable trapping practices for future generations.

Regards,

Kevin Good

In Alberta, new wolverine trapping rules have led to debate between trappers and researchers.

Trappers gather observations and harvest data from traplines across the province, covering a wide range of habitats and regions. This province-wide knowledge offers a broad and diverse understanding of wildlife patterns that can complement localized research studies.

Bringing local trapper knowledge together with scientific research can strengthen our understanding of wolverine habitat and distribution, leading to more informed and effective wildlife management decisions. 🌲📊

Spring is when: 🌷

✔️ Many trapping seasons close to protect breeding cycles 🐾
✔️ Trappers clean, store, and maintain equipment 🧰
✔️ Training, workshops, and association meetings begin 📚

Responsible trapping follows strict regulations and science-based management to ensure healthy wildlife populations year after year. 🌿

Steven Rinella of MeatEater is calling for a boycott of Etsy. And frankly I agree with him!

Etsy announced it will ban all fur sales starting in August 2026 after pressure from activist groups. By fur they mean, All fur! That includes legally trapped pelts and even vintage pieces.

At the same time, Etsy still allows leather, wool, and taxidermy. It is about targeting one part of it and seeing if anyone pushes back.

Rinella said, on his podcast, what a lot of people are thinking. When companies start cutting off legal hunting and trapping markets, hunters need to pay attention to where their money goes.

So here it is. If a company is willing to remove legal wildlife markets and ignore the people who depend on them, they should not get your business.
