More information on Corporal John Moffat Gee. Died as a prisoner of war in Japan. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbour, USA and Hong Kong on the same morning in December of 1941 but because Hong Kong is on the other side of the international date line, it was officially the day after Pearl Harbour.

On a bright note, two of our residents, Robert & Sarah (Gee) DeMerchant, would like to send out their best wishes and good luck to their Great Great Great Granddaughter Olivia DeMerchant. She will be competing this weekend in the World Cup of Rugby in London England. Team Canada will play Team England in the finals. Good luck to Olivia, we are proud of you!!

She is "the "workhorse," always in the thick of scrums and rucks, where groups of opposing players tussle for possession of the ball.

Hello everyone. The Board of Directors of the Gee Flat Cemetery met recently in Bristol. Thanks to the generosity of Bob and Becky Brewer, the cemetery company has been given the deed to our little family cemetery. We are most grateful and this current BOD is committed to perpetuating this generosity by looking after those that have gone before us.

There is a headstone in the Holmesville Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery that has a poem on it. I have it memorized and will share it with you today. I wish everyone a blessed day.

Kind friends beware as you pass by,
As you are now, so once was I.
As I am now, so you must be,
Prepare therefore to follow me.

Robert (Bob) Brewer was a Canadian Air Force Veteran. He spent five years with the Air Force during the mid to late '50's. Although Bob enjoyed his work in the Air Force, but he was not a hard drinker and big spender like many of his superiors. Bob felt he was meant for a different course and released in 1959.
Bob moved to Hartland and built the Ja-Sa-Le motel. The motel flourished under his management.
Bob was one to always give back to the community and this year marks the 50th anniversary of his tenure as President of Branch #37. Bob went on to become the District Commander of Upper River Valley District.
Bob was a devoted Air Cadet instructor, and it is there where Chris O'Donnell and I met him. Even at our young age we realized that Bob was the "real deal" and we better pay attention. Bob made sure we knew how to polish boots and iron a uniform........for one of us that led to a career in the Royal Canadian Navy.
Bob was a mainstay at the Florenceville Legion and was a life member of the Legion. He was always there to lend a hand and provide direction. When we decided to put an addition on the kitchen it was Bob who rallied the folks and set the course from foundation to fruition. Bob truly was a master of all trades.
A few summers back Bob and Bob Boucher CD took on the task of updating the database of veterans and where they lie. The two of them worked tirelessly throughout the summer and into the early fall. The leaves had fallen when they closed the book on the last Cemetery. I told Bob I would type up their update so that their labours would not be in vain. It took me longer than it should, and Bob called me out on it. I was fortunate to pass the completed update in a binder to him the last time we visited. He looked at that long and hard during that visit.
It is with an unimaginable feeling of loss that Florenceville Branch #37 Royal Canadian Legion acknowledges the passing of our Dear friend and mentor; Robert (Bob) Brewer.
Rest easy Friend.
Lest we forget; lest we forget.

We have the regrettable task of posting about the death of the most important benefactor that our little cemetery has ever had. Robert Miles Brewer (Bob) passed away on Friday April 11th, 2025 at his home in Victoria County. From donating the physical land the cemetery is on, years of personal maintenance, financing improvements, and in 2019 investing in our cemetery sign, Bob was was always there for the cemetery. Now the cemetery will be there for him.

In memory of Bob please consider a charitable donation (tax receipt included for Canadians) to
