Today, the Oxford County Archives is highlighting a piece of local history from their collections.
Celebrating its 175th anniversary this year, Plattsville, Ontario, is a historic village within the Township of Blandford-Blenheim. The Village was established around 1851 by Samuel Platt, who built its first mill, and served as the first Postmaster, and held the office of Justice of Peace for many years.
Located along Smith’s Creek, by 1862 the village had a population of 500 and included such successful businesses as Warnock, Farrand & Co. (woolen factory), N. Fried & Co. (cabinet, chair, and pail factory), and A. McArthur & Co. (foundry).
Visit the Plattsville Park and Arena to take part in the numerous activities planned to celebrate this momentous milestone.
