Lunenburg County Seniors Safety Program

Lunenburg County Seniors Safety Program A community-based program that addresses the safety concerns of our seniors. It is one of 16 Seniors’ Safety Programs operating in Nova Scotia, Canada.

The Lunenburg County Seniors’ Safety Program operates under the sponsorship of the Lunenburg County Seniors’ Safety Partnership Society, and is housed in the offices of Bridgewater Police Service. The program is designed to address senior’s safety concerns, reduce incidences of elder abuse, and promote better communication between seniors and police. Services are offered to seniors in their homes

and in the community. To ensure that all seniors can participate in our services, programs are typically offered at no cost. With the advice of seniors and our partners, we identify gaps in services and endeavor to fill those gaps with effective programs or awareness campaigns. Programs offered include:

1) Home visits

2) Seniors Safety Academy

3) Living Alone series

4) Seniors Safe Driving programs

5. Community presentations on safety-related topics

6) Vial of LifeTM

7. Senior Friendly ProgramTM

The program is also committed to work with community partners to address emerging issues (such as managing dementia and driving cessation) and to collaborate on inter-generational activities. If you or someone you care about needs our services, don't hesitate to call. To contact the Lunenburg County Seniors’ Safety Coordinator please call: (902) 543-3567.

May 31- June 6, 2026, is recognized as Access Awareness Week; a week to celebrate achievements made both by, and for, persons with disabilities in the areas of accessibility, transportation, housing, employment, recreation, education and communication.

The towns and municipalities in Lunenburg County are working with the Lunenburg County Accessibility Advisory Committee to present a First Voice Panel Discussion featuring members of our community who have the lived experience of disability. They will share their experiences of living with disability and how they have worked to promote accessibility in their own way.

This event will be held at the District of Lunenburg Municipal Services Building (located at 10 Allée Champlain Drive in Cookville) on June 2 with a Flag Raising at 1:00 p.m. at the building entrance followed by the First Voice Panel Discussion at 1:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. If you are unable to join in person, the event will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/

“This is where a wish begins” ❤️

Not with a form.
Not with a fundraiser.
Not with a big moment.

Sometimes, a wish begins with a conversation.
A visit.
A story shared between generations.
Someone taking the time to truly listen.

This simple moment could be the beginning of something life changing.

At We Are Young, we have learned that seniors still carry dreams, hopes, and wishes close to their hearts. Sometimes they simply need someone to ask: “What would your wish be?”

And sometimes, even the possibility of that wish becoming reality can spark excitement, hope, connection, and something meaningful to look forward to again.

If there is a senior in your life who could benefit from having a wish granted, we would love to hear their story.

Being asked for presentations on important safety issues for our communities' older adults is a welcomed event.
This past Monday RCMP CST Kay and LCSSP held Scam Prevention conversations in New Germany at the Rosedale Home For Rosedale Home for Special Care. Being able to navigate the digital world safely or what to do if you think you've been scammed is empowering. Thank you, Staff and Residents of Rosedale. We very much enjoyed our afternoon with you.

Thank you to the local Lunenburg County Seniors Safety Program and Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Nova Scotia for the information session on how to stay safe from scams!
