South Shore Women In Business

South Shore Women In Business Informal social and learning opportunities for business-minded women, owners, managers, entrepreneurs, artisans, professional women - all are welcome!

About our group:

We are an informal bunch of women in business, the arts and professions in Lunenburg County, NS (mostly) who keep in touch to offer occasional opportunities to gather and share challenges and successes and some social time. Many of us are solo-preneurs or in small partnerships, some in retail, some in home-based offices. Others may be part of larger companies and institutions bu

t looking for space to connect more intimately with others. For over 10 years, guest speakers, dinner meetings and "pot luck" socials had been on our agenda, but in a formalized context. Until the Spring of 2014 we were a registered non-profit organization (under the Societies Act, NS) dedicated to offering connection, mentoring and social support to women in business in our region. A diverse group, our businesses included retail operations, direct selling and professional services, managers, entrepreneurs, artists and more. Some were starting their first business, others had many years experience as a business operator. Regretfully, we found that our membership lacked a cohesive direction and vision about what SSWBA should be and provide to its members, and we also had a lack of people willing to step up to the board in order to continue to operate the Society. As a result, we disbanded in 2014 as a registered non-profit. We have no organization, no board, no membership nor funds. However some of us still have a need to connect with others in business, and maintain some of the friendships we forged in the association. In our new unstructured group we welcome our former members as well as women who have not previously been involved in SSWBA. Do not expect formal meetings, a schedule, conferences or trainings...unless you want to start your own organization. For now we are keeping it simple and mostly social, although events with learning opportunities are welcome. Please connect here if you'd like to propose an event or gathering.
