🐾 Wellness Wednesday: Meet Stanley! 🐾
When Stanley arrived at SHAID, he tipped the scales at a whopping 21 pounds! While he clearly enjoys his snacks, carrying excess weight can put a significant strain on a cat's body and overall health.
A cat is considered overweight when they are 10–20% above their ideal weight and obese when they are more than 20% above it. Obesity can increase the risk of many health issues, including arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, urinary problems, and a weakened immune system. Extra weight also places added stress on joints, muscles, and internal organs, making everyday activities more difficult and uncomfortable.
The good news? Stanley is now on the road to a healthier future! ❤️
During his stay at SHAID, we'll be working closely to help him safely lose weight through:🐱 Carefully measured meals🥣 A balanced, calorie-controlled diet🎾 Increased activity and enrichment⚖️ Regular weight monitoring
Healthy weight loss doesn't happen overnight. It takes time, patience, and consistency, but every small step makes a big difference. Our goal is to help Stanley feel better, move more comfortably, and improve his overall quality of life.
For cat owners, preventing obesity starts with proper portion control, regular playtime, and routine veterinary checkups. If your cat is already overweight, work with your veterinarian to develop a safe weight-loss plan and remember to celebrate the small victories along the way.
We're cheering Stanley on as he starts his weight-loss journey and look forward to seeing his progress in the weeks and months ahead! 💙
