Investing in a Stronger South Shore 💙

For the Balcome family and the team at BMI Limited, giving back means investing in the community they call home.

That’s why they made an incredible $100,000 gift to the Brighter Days Campaign, believing that strong healthcare is the foundation of a strong, vibrant community.

“You’ll never regret investing in your community. It’s one of the best investments you can make.”— Martin Balcome, President & CEO, BMI Ltd.

We are incredibly grateful to BMI Limited for helping build a healthier, stronger South Shore for generations to come.

✨ South Shore Bursary Recipient Spotlight: Jaqueline Swim

As we celebrate 20 years of the South Shore Bursary Program, we're proud to shine a spotlight on Jaqueline Swim, a bursary recipient who went on to build her career right here at South Shore Regional Hospital.

Today, Jaqueline is a Medical Laboratory Technologist, putting her skills and passion to work helping provide excellent care to patients in our community.

📍 Hometown: Bridgewater, Nova Scotia
🎓 School: Nova Scotia Community College, Ivany Campus

💙 What did receiving the bursary mean to Jaqueline?
"This financial gift supported my academic success and gave me peace of mind, knowing I had a position at SSRH to practice my profession."

🐾 Beyond the lab:
Dog sports are Jaqueline's passion, where she enjoys building the ultimate bond through teamwork. Alongside dedicated friends, she celebrates the excellence of purebred dogs.

Jaqueline's story is a wonderful example of how investing in local students can help build the future of health care right here on the South Shore. Thank you to the donors who have made the South Shore Bursary Program possible for the past 20 years—and who continue to invest in the next generation of health care professionals.

Another community-funded project is now making a difference at Fishermen's Memorial Hospital! 💙

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community and the success of the Annual Curl for a Cause (2024 & 2025), 23 new patient lifts have now been installed and are already making a difference.

These lifts help make care safer, more comfortable, and more dignified for patients while supporting the dedicated healthcare teams who use them every day. By reducing the physical demands of patient transfers, they create a safer environment for both patients and staff.

To everyone who curled, volunteered, donated, sponsored, and supported Curl for a Cause, thank you. Your generosity has helped bring this important equipment to Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, improving care for our community today and for years to come.

Together, we're making a lasting impact on healthcare, close to home. 💙
