$93,000 raised, and counting! 💙

Thank you to everyone who has supported the South Shore Bursary Program. Your generosity has already raised over $93,000, enough to support 12 bursaries for local students pursuing careers in healthcare.

Since 2006, the program has provided up to $7,500 a year to local students entering healthcare. With nine new recipients joining this year, we’ve now supported 172 individuals on their journey.

And the impact goes beyond the classroom: for every year a student receives a bursary, they commit to working one year locally with Nova Scotia Health, helping build the future of healthcare right here on the South Shore.

We’re incredibly grateful for the support so far, and there’s still a chance to help more local students.

When a family is facing one of the hardest moments of their lives, the kindness of the person standing beside them can make all the difference. For one donor family, that person was Dr. Reza Ghaffari, Anesthesiologist at South Shore Regional Hospital.

💙 Make a Meaningful Difference as a Hospice Volunteer 💙

Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity that truly impacts the lives of others?

Hospice Volunteers provide companionship, comfort, and support to individuals and families during some of life's most important moments. Through a listening ear, a caring presence, and compassionate support, Hospice Volunteers make a lasting difference in their community.

✅ Comprehensive training provided through an 8-module education program, next session scheduled for November 23, 2026. Register by November 6!
✅ Flexible scheduling with opportunities available Monday through Sunday
✅ Volunteer as little as 3 hours per week, with opportunities to contribute more if desired
✅ Join a caring and supportive team

For Peter, farming was never just a livelihood. It was a way of life rooted in hard work, stewardship and a deep sense of responsibility to the people around him.
Known for the pride he took in his farm and the quiet generosity he showed to others, Peter believed in leaving things better than he found them.

Through a gift in his will, Peter chose to leave a lasting legacy of support for Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, ensuring his generosity will continue to make a difference for generations to come.

Yesterday, we celebrated the grand opening of the new Emergency Department, and today, the team welcomed their very first patients into the new space! What an exciting milestone for our community.

We’re so proud at the South Shore Health Foundation to have played a part in bringing this vision to life. To celebrate the team’s big first day, we dropped off a little treat basket to help fuel them as they settle into their new home.

Please join us in celebrating Mackenzie Eisnor, RN with the Women’s & Children’s Unit, as our newest Champion of Care.

For new parents, welcoming a baby into the world is a moment filled with excitement, nerves and so many emotions. Having a caring and supportive nurse by your side can make all the difference.

Mackenzie was recognized by a family who was grateful to have her with them when they welcomed their little one into the world. Her kindness and care helped make an already unforgettable experience even more special.

Today, we cut the ribbon on the redevelopment at South Shore Regional Hospital, marking a momentous day for healthcare on the South Shore.

This once-in-a-generation project will transform healthcare for our community, creating new and enhanced spaces that will support patients, families and healthcare teams for generations to come.

And this moment would not have been possible without you.

Together, our community raised more than $10.8 million through the Brighter Days campaign, demonstrating what is possible when a community comes together with a shared vision for better healthcare.

To every donor, volunteer, community partner and supporter who believed in this project and gave so generously: thank you. Your generosity has helped turn a vision into a reality.

Our Board of Directors is committed to making a meaningful difference for patients, families, healthcare teams and our community. So far this fiscal year, they’ve committed to purchasing a wide range of equipment, supplies, education and patient supports across South Shore healthcare.

From Palliative Care and Hospice, to Maternal & Child Health, Oncology, Pharmacy, Medical/Surgical care and community programs, these investments are helping address needs where they matter most.

Every purchase may look a little different, but each one has the same goal: supporting better care for our community.
