With Back-to-School season quickly approaching, the RCMP want to remind parents about the risk of putting your child’s personal information online.
A child’s name, teacher, school, favourite things and other personal details may seem innocent, but together they give someone with bad intentions far more information than they should have.
Celebrate the milestone, but if you want to post about it, consider keeping the unique details off social media.
DO:
- Take photos in a safe, private location.
- Keep the sign simple.
- Keep the background simple and free of identifying details
DON’T:
- Photograph in front of your school, house number, or street signs.
- Include your child’s full name, age, teachers name, or school name.
The internet is not a safe place to share private details about your children. Please share responsibly and help us keep our kids safe.
Have a safe and fun school year!🍎
If you would like to have the additional information as a keepsake for your child, write it on the back, without sharing to the world.
