May12th Awareness Day - Neuroplasticity and A Q&A Session with Dr. Eleanor Stein, MD, FRCP(C)
Canadian charity Action CIND is pleased to bring you a webinar on Friday May 12th, 2023 at 2:00 pm ET with Dr Eleanor Stein MD, FRCP(C). She is a Canadian physician that has dedicated her practice to helping people diagnosed with ME, FM, CFS and ES/MCS.
May12th is our International Day of Awareness for Chronic Immunological and Neurological Diseases (CIND) which was founded in 1992. The whole month of May is dedicated to raising awareness. CIND illnesses include ME, FM, CFS, ES/MCS, GWI, Lyme. Our website www.may12th.org is being refreshed in time for May. Please check it out in May.
Dr Stein will spend time during this May12th Awareness event to provide some insight to neuroplasticity and to answer any questions you may have about it and these illnesses.
On www.eleanorsteinmd.ca she writes, “Neuroplasticity is the brain's innate tendency to make new connections between neurons each time a group of neurons fire together. This means that each thought, emotion or action you do becomes hardwired and those you do most often form the strongest neural connections. These connections can cause problems like chronic pain when they go awry. But understanding the biology of neuroplasticity allows us to consciously leverage neuroplasticity to reverse changes that are not serving us.”
Neuroplasticity can help patients suffering from a vast number of illnesses.
To help you understand what neuroplasticity can and cannot do for you, and how you might use it, Dr Stein will draw on cases where she has seen gains as well as 5 scenarios to illustrate this fascinating topic. The cases include:
1. A patient has MCS – Dr Stein has had great success with her MCS symptoms. How can this patient reduce the severity of her symptoms?
2. A patient has osteoarthritis in her feet. She needs orthotics but it puts too much pressure on the top of her foot. She wants her feet cut off she’s in so much pain. Can she get control of the pain and how?
3. A man underwent successful surgery to remove a benign brain tumour. He has gone from a fitness enthusiast (e.g. lifting weights, biking etc.) to having little motivation, brain fog and unable to work. Can neuroplasticity help him to recover and begin to feel better?
4. A man has just been diagnosed with Parkinson’s. How can neuroplasticity be used to slow the progression?
5. Years ago, a women had a nerve to her bladder nicked during surgery which has resulted in her having the feelings a frequent need to urinate. Can neuroplasticity dial down these feelings? How would she reduce the need to urinate?
You are welcome to submit any questions in advance by emailing [email protected].
