Freedom House

Freedom House Freedom House is a group of ordinary people who believe that kindness can transform a city. We have two rules. Love God, Love Others, The Rest is Gravy. Love God.

Join us 10am Every Sunday Morning at 305 West Street Freedom House has been a Church, but also a Community Outreach hub since its launch nearly 20 years ago. Since then, through the development of The Kindness Project, Freedom House has a history of bringing visions to life. For example like a winter carnival for the city (seeing tens of thousands each year Pre-Covid), developing Kindness-Based El

ementary School Curriculum along with a local Superhero named Captain Kindness, helping to run and assist with a volunteer-staff for countless Brantford City partnership events like Canada Day, The Santa Clause Parade and Movies in the Downtown Square known as "Harmony Square." Freedom House's "Kindness Centre" in Downtown Brantford for many years, was a stalwart when it came to meeting the basic human needs of the most vulnerable in our city. As a Church, along with providing weekly services and programming for the congregants (representing a wide array of age groups and cultural backgrounds) Freedom House has long been a catalyst within the city when it comes to unity, partnerships and discovering creative methods to serve the city. Over the years, members of the community-service team of Freedom House have been recognized with the Ontario 150 Medallion and both the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond, and Platinum, Jubilee medals for service to the nation in the area of community development. Freedom House's community impact has been recognized on The Marilyn Denis Show, Various Canadian Christian TV Programs, and even with a TedX Talk in a partnership project with Brantford's Wilfrid Laurier University. Community Partners include both the religious and non-religious Charities and Non-Profits, and even include extensive time encouraging kindness and community intentional involvement with the local business community... one year actually being named the Downtown Brantford BIA Champions of the Year by the Business Improvement Association. At its heart, Freedom House cares for others. It's the Golden Rule. Be it someone in need of counseling, clothing or care... or an ambitious visionary looking to maximize their positive impact on the city. Our motto is, "We are just a group of ordinary people who believe that Kindness can transform a city. Love Others. The rest is gravy."

A Personal Word from Pastor Dave regarding today's announcement.

For 22 years Freedom House has tried to model what we say each week.

“We are just ordinary people who believe that Kindness can transform a city. We have 2 Rules. Love God. Love Others. The rest is gravy”

In that time we have worshiped in an old bar (that now serves as affordable housing that we own). We’ve gathered in a Mall (that now houses a University Campus). We met in a Hotel when we were travelers during the uncertain times of the pandemic. We were welcomed by Yes Church into a former Ukrainian Orthodox Church building where we were given space to breathe, strengthen, and grow. At every step, the address changed but the assignment didn’t.

Now, as Yes Church becomes part of Freedom House and we begin to meet at 305 West Street on March 15th, we step into a new chapter because unity is stronger than independence. Together, we will steward three buildings, including a thriving daycare that already blesses families in our city. Together, we can serve more, love more, and reach further.

We say often: Get free. Live free. Free others. That means we refuse to get tangled up in the small, divisive things that drag us down. We won’t be captured by nostalgia. We won’t be distracted by preference. We won’t be defined by buildings. We will be led by obedience, kindness, and love.

We can’t become a picture that we’re holding of someone who is moved by God. He isn’t making copies. He’s painting originals. We can’t get too enamored with the framed prints of the past on the wall. Those images may move us and remind us… but only His daily presence transforms us into who we’re BECOMING today.

Jesus is not a reproduction. He is present. And when He is present, He brings fresh water. This coming together is not about preserving an image. It is about pursuing His presence.
We are stronger together. We are freer together. And our city is better served when the Church stands as one.

With gratitude and expectation,
Rev. Dave Carrol

Over the past season, Freedom House and Yes Church have been prayerfully discerning what the Lord is leading us into next. After much conversation, prayer, reflection, and a shared sense of peace, we are grateful to announce that our two church families will be coming together as one congregation.

This decision was not made quickly or casually. It has been shaped by prayer, deep love for our respective histories, and a shared desire to see the Gospel continue to flourish in our city.
For Yes Church, this marks the closing of a cherished chapter. A story filled with faithful teaching, sacrificial service, baptisms, weddings, funerals, and countless quiet acts of obedience that only heaven fully records. We honour that legacy with gratitude. Nothing about this transition diminishes what God has already done.

For Freedom House, this is not about building something new, but about participating in what God is already doing. Freedom House and Yes Church have a decades-long history of partnership and this is simply the next chapter. We believe the Lord is inviting us into a new season of shared mission, shared worship, and shared community together.

Beginning March 15, we will gather as one church family called Freedom House at 305 West Street at 10am with Pastor Dave Carrol as the Lead Pastor. We’ve already been neighbours for years! Jesus Christ remains the head of His Church. The Kindness of Lord remains our message. The Scriptures remain our authority. And love remains our calling.

We recognize that transitions carry both joy and tenderness. There is gratitude and there is grief. There is anticipation and there are memories. All of that is welcome here. What unites us is greater than what distinguishes us. We are not merging organizations; we are recognizing family.

We believe God is faithful in every season. He has been faithful behind us. He will be faithful ahead of us. Different season…same Jesus. We look forward to worshipping together and stepping into this next chapter with humility, hope, and trust in the One who builds His Church.

We’d love to have you join us at Freedom House!

Sincerely with Excitement:
The Freedom House and Yes Church Teams

It's Gold Medal Sunday so Freedom House is going to experience it together.

Canada and the United States drop the puck for the Hockey Gold Medal at 8:10am. We'll watch the first period, then worship during the first intermission. Then we'll watch the second period, followed by a Sermon. Then we'll watch and celebrate the win together in the third period!

Bit different? Yep. But there'll be Hockey Puck Bagels with all kinds of spreads aplenty. A Sunday Morning we'll always remember together!

We're working together with the wonderful folks at Grand Highland Christmas Trees to find some local people who can't afford a real tree ... and would be blessed to have one.

If you'd like one or would like to get one to bless someone else, email [email protected] or message us your situation and he'll get back to you with the way to access this limited special program while supply lasts.

This is special season of Kindness! Thanks Grand Highland for helping people make it special.
