The Navy League of Canada - Brantford Branch is a not-for-profit organization that provides support for after school programming for youth aged nine to eighteen. Our programming is offered free of any enrolment fees, or

charges, so we can serve the community across all socioeconomic boundaries. Our organization offers support for cadets to learn skills, take part in events, and see the world both locally and abroad. Our cadets have been fortunate enough to participate in sailing, first aid, and other naval related competitions at regional, provincial, and national levels. Recently, some of our cadets were also able to participate in the Great Lakes Tour where they were able to experience life aboard a Canadian Naval Vessel. Over the past years, some of the cadets were given the opportunity to be part of exchanges to South Korea, United States, Great Britain, Australia and the Netherlands.

On Thursday, May 21st, the Commanding Officer of HMCS Star, Commander Kevin Ng, served as our units reviewing officer for our most recent ceremonial inspection, fitting his busy schedule to drop by and spend his night with us!

Commander Ng also gave a presentation on the role of the Royal Canadian Navy, its benefits and the daily life of a sailor serving within the forces. His expertise gave the cadets a true insight into the naval experience and guided them towards more leadership and citizenship opportunities.

We thank Commander Ng for his visit, and to our cadets and staff for giving such a warm welcome!

On Mother’s Day, a familiar image takes on a different meaning. 🎨

American artist James Whistler’s famous portrait of his mother inspired this First World War poster promoting enlistment with the Irish Canadian Rangers. It draws on themes of family and duty, using a well-known image to connect ideas of motherhood with wartime service.
