A SPECIAL VISITOR RETURNS TO NLCC ADMIRAL LANDYMORE!

We had the distinct pleasure of welcoming a very special guest to NLCC Admiral Landymore this evening Lt(N) William Parks, CD (Ret'd)!

A former member of Admiral Landymore & Admiral Nelles and a proud veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, Lt(N) William Parks served his country for more than 30 years before returning to the cadet movement as a Cadet Instructor in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he continues to reside.

While visiting his brother here in town, he took the opportunity to stop by and revisit his old corps. It was wonderful to welcome him back and give him a chance to see how things have grown and changed over the years!

Our cadets thoroughly enjoyed meeting him, chatting with him, hearing about his experiences, and sharing in the opportunity to learn from someone who has dedicated so much of his life to service, leadership, and the cadet movement.

Visits like these remind us that once a cadet, always part of the cadet family!

Lt(N) William Parks, thank you for taking the time to visit us and reconnect with Admiral Landymore. Your service to Canada and your continued connection to the cadet community are truly appreciated. We hope you enjoyed your visit as much as our cadets did!

ONTARIO CADETS WEEK 2026,
LET THE CELEBRATIONS BEGIN!

This weekend marks the beginning of a very special week across our province, Ontario Cadets Week!

From communities large and small, thousands of young Ontarians will be recognized for their commitment, leadership, teamwork, citizenship, service and personal growth through the Cadet Program.

This year is particularly meaningful as we celebrate the 5th Annual Ontario Cadets Week since its creation.

The idea for a province-wide Cadet Week was brought forward in the Ontario Legislature by former MPP Toby Barrett, who introduced a Private Member’s Bill in November 2021 calling for formal recognition of Ontario’s cadets. Bill 45, the Ontario Cadets Week Act, 2022, subsequently became law, establishing the first week of October as an annual opportunity to recognize cadets and the many people who support them.

That history matters.

Ontario Cadets Week was created not simply to recognize young people in uniform, but to shine a light on the incredible opportunities these programs provide and opportunities that develop leadership, citizenship, physical fitness, teamwork, confidence, responsibility and practical skills, while encouraging young people to become active and engaged members of their communities.

And here in Brantford, we are proud to be part of that story.

Monday, October 5th, Navy League of Canada - Brantford Branch & NLCC Admiral Landymore & Brantford-Brant Sea Cadets RCSCC135 and the City of Brantford will raise the Cadet Week flags at City Hall/Harmony Square recognizing the Cadet Programs that proudly serve youth and families throughout our community.

Brantford is home to:
⚓ Admiral Landymore
⚓ Admiral Nelles
🪖 2659 56th Field Regiment Royal Canadian Army Cadets
✈️ Royal Canadian Air Cadets 104

Together, these programs represent an incredible community of young people, adult volunteers, instructors, officers, families and community partners who dedicate countless hours throughout the year.

And this Saturday, Brantford will be represented in Simcoe as we help officially kick off this year's celebrations.

We are honoured to participate in the Ontario Cadets Week Kick-Off Parade, with:
🎺 Royal Canadian Air Cadets
⚓ Admiral Landymore
⚓ RCSCC 135 Admiral Nelles
🎺 Our combined element band, bringing together musicians from RCSCC135, 2659 Army and 104 Air Cadets.

What makes this especially exciting is the opportunity for our young people to stand together — representing different elements, different programs and different communities, while demonstrating what they have learned through their Cadet experience.
And what an honour it will be to have the Governor General serving as the Review Officer for this special occasion.

Its about much more than uniforms and marching, It is about young people discovering what they are capable of, learning to lead and learning to serve.

It is about friendships, teamwork, discipline, resilience and confidence and about trying something new, whether that means sailing, music, marksmanship, biathlon, aviation, fieldcraft, navigation, first aid, public speaking, community service or countless other opportunities.

And it is about giving young people a place where they can belong, contribute and grow.

The Navy League Cadet Program plays an important role in that journey as well, providing opportunities for younger youth ages 9–12 before they continue into the senior Sea, Army and Air Cadet programs. Across Ontario, the four programs collectively contribute to communities through the development of young people and through their participation in community events and service.

So as we raise the flags, put on our uniforms and step onto parade this week, let us remember what we are really celebrating:

OUR YOUTH.
The young people who show up.

The parents & families who support them.

The officers, instructors and Branch & Support volunteers who give their time.

The sponsoring organizations and community partners who make opportunities possible.

And the communities that continue to believe in the next generation.
From Brantford to Simcoe and communities across Ontario, we are proud to stand together.

Brantford Branch is proud to launch our Fall Tagging Fundraiser,one of our biggest and most important fundraisers of the year!

Our Cadet youth programs at Cadet Hall, 119 Waterloo Street, Brantford, provide meaningful opportunities for young people to learn, grow, lead and build lifelong skills. But these opportunities depend on the generosity of our community.

Very donation helps support our local programming.

Funds raised through Fall Tagging help provide:

Uniforms and equipment

Summer sailing opportunities

Winter camping and outdoor training

Competitions and special events

In-house training and educational programming

Educational and recreational field trips

Visits to legislatures and other educational destinations

Leadership, teamwork and skill-building opportunities

Activities that allow our cadets to participate, explore and experience new opportunities

Your donation stays here and supports our local youth programs.

Fundraising is an important part of the Navy League tradition. It is through the support of families, businesses, community organizations and generous individuals that we can continue providing these experiences to young people in our community.

Our cadets aren't simply asking for donations — they are learning the value of community service, responsibility, teamwork and giving back. Every conversation, every donation and every hour spent fundraising helps them understand what it means to be part of something bigger than themselves.

Today, on behalf of the Navy League of Canada - Brantford Branch & NLCC Admiral Landymore & Brantford-Brant Sea Cadets we pause with humility and respect to remember, honour, listen, and reflect.

As members of the Brantford community, we are privileged to live and serve alongside Six Nations of the Grand River and within a region with deep Indigenous history, culture, and community.

We remember the children who were taken from their families, those who never returned home, the Survivors, and the families and communities who continue to live with the lasting and intergenerational impacts of the residential school system.

As an organization dedicated to young people, leadership, service, and community, we recognize that reconciliation requires more than wearing orange for one day. It calls upon all of us to listen, learn, build respectful relationships, acknowledge difficult truths, and support a future grounded in respect, understanding, and dignity.

We extend our deepest respect to the Haudenosaunee peoples of Six Nations of the Grand River, to First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across Canada, and particularly to Survivors, families, and communities who continue to carry these experiences.

We remember the children.

We honour the Survivors.

We respect the families and communities.

We listen. We learn. We remember.
And we commit to moving forward with respect.
