Happy Thanksgiving from the Brantford Fire Department! As you prepare for a weekend filled with food, keep these safe cooking reminders in mind:

👀 stay in the kitchen when cooking on the stovetop
🦃 stay home and check on your turkey often
⏲️ use a timer to help track cooking time
🕯️ keep combustibles items at least 1 meter from heat sources like the stove or candles
👶 🚫 keep kids and pets at least 1 meter away from the stove, hot foods, and hot liquids

🔥 🛑 If a fire starts, cover the pot with a lid to smother the flames and turn off the heat. NEVER use water on a grease fire! Call 9-1-1.

Test your smoke and CO alarms before you start cooking to make sure they're working.

There’s no better way to close out Fire Prevention Week than by endorsing one of the best to ever do it.

Bob Sproul spent his career serving Brantford as a Fire Prevention Officer, protecting families, educating our community and advocating for public safety.

He’s already earned the endorsement of OPSEU Local 256, representing our city’s paramedics, and the Brantford & District Labour Council. Bob has spent decades working alongside nearly every City service and the people who deliver them. That experience, those relationships and that understanding of how our City actually works would be invaluable at the Council table.
