World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is observed annually on June 15 to voice opposition to the abuse and suffering inflicted on older generations. Launched by the UN in 2006, it highlights elder abuse as a major public health and human rights issue. The purpose of the day is to promote the dignity, rights, and well-being of older adults while raising awareness about physical, emotional, and financial abuse.

June is Aphasia Awareness Month. Aphasia is a communication disorder that affects a person’s speaking, understanding, reading, and/or writing. There are approximately 165,000 people living with aphasia in Canada. But only approximately 5% of the population in Ontario understand what aphasia is.

This video was made by Cindy Mathieu, a person with aphasia and a member of the Ontario Aphasia Advocacy Group. The video highlights Nancy, a stroke survivor and person living with aphasia.
