Today is World Mental Health Day.

Mental health support is an important part of a strong, healthy community. Having counselling and support services available close to home can make it easier for people to access the help they need.

We’re grateful to have organizations in Downtown Brandon providing these important services, and BDDC is proud to support the growth and continued presence of businesses that contribute to the well-being of our downtown community.

BE-Loved Therapeutic Play & Counselling had a vision for creating dedicated spaces where they could better support the people they serve. With renovations complete, that vision has become two safe, welcoming spaces designed around the work they do every day.

For Tracy Bates-Wark, the experience with BDDC was about more than the funding. She shared that the grant process was straightforward, questions were answered quickly, and the support helped make their plans a reality.

As Tracy put it, the funding is “helping us build a foundation to uplift and support our people for years to come.”

We’re proud to see another downtown space being invested in and used to serve our community.

At BDDC, we’re proud to support businesses that continue to invest in downtown Brandon, and Komfort Kitchen is a great example of what that partnership can achieve.

With support from BDDC’s Commercial Space Improvement Program (CSIP), Komfort Kitchen completed a major renovation of its dated washroom facilities. The project included new plumbing, electrical, ventilation, insulation, walls, and fixtures, as well as four private washrooms, including a larger accessible washroom.

For owner Derek Woychyshyn, this project is part of a much bigger journey of investing in and transforming his downtown space:

“Each major project has had a boost with grant funds from the BDDC to make imagination a reality. I appreciate that they exist and offer such a great service focusing on downtown, because working to revitalize century old buildings sometimes costs more due to new building codes or surprise expensive asbestos abatements. Definitely recommend reaching out to Emmanuel with BDDC before your project to see if it qualifies for financial assistance.”
