Brandon Salutes

Brandon Salutes Fosters Unity of the military and civilian communities in the Brandon area. Its’ shape and form may change, but its presence will be everlasting.

Brandon Salutes’ activities and functions are based upon the goal of strengthening the community connection that exists between the Brandon, Rural Municipality of Cornwallis, CFB Shilo and the communities surrounding the base. Brandon Salutes highlights how our communities are already intertwined, and provide opportunities for our communities to grow closer. We encourage awareness of the differen

t lifestyles that exist in the civilian and military communities, and through understanding of each other’s viewpoints, build stronger relations between all. Brandon Salutes acts as a vehicle to continually grow the connection between our areas’ different communities. The committee’s efforts will be based on a long-term strategy that will connect our communities for years to come. Brandon Salutes will be successful if we continue to raise awareness amongst and engage many different people from our community groups. Brandon Salutes will continue as an organization as long as there is a military presence in our area.

Today, on Canadian Armed Forces Day, Brandon Salutes proudly recognizes and thanks the dedicated members of the Canadian Armed Forces who serve our country at home and abroad.

Across Canada, and here in Westman, members of the military community demonstrate professionalism, courage, sacrifice, and service every day. Whether serving with CFB Shilo, the Army Reserve, the Royal Canadian Navy, the Royal Canadian Air Force, or as Cadet instructors and support personnel, their commitment helps protect the values and freedoms we often take for granted.

Canadian Armed Forces Day is also an opportunity to recognize the families who stand beside those who serve. Military life often requires long separations, frequent moves, and unique challenges that are shared by spouses, children, parents, and loved ones.

Brandon Salutes works to strengthen the connection between our military and civilian communities, fostering understanding, respect, and a strong partnership that benefits us all. Today, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the contributions of the military members and families who call Westman home.

To all who serve, and to those who support them, thank you.

Today, on Mother’s Day, we honour the many kinds of strength carried by military mothers.

To the moms who leave their children behind to serve our country.
To the mothers holding families together while their partners are deployed or away in service.
To the moms who live each day with quiet worry for a son or daughter serving in uniform.

And especially today, we hold space for the mothers carrying grief — those whose child, or whose children’s other parent, never came home. Their sacrifice is woven into the fabric of our nation and will never be forgotten.

Thank you for your courage, resilience, sacrifice, and love.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Brandon Salutes.

Today, on the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who served during the Second World War.

May 8, 1945 marked the end of war in Europe, but the cost of that victory was carried by millions — including Canadians who answered the call to serve far from home, and the families and communities who supported them.

At Brandon Salutes, we recognize the enduring legacy of our veterans and military members whose service helped shape the freedoms and peace we enjoy today. Their stories, sacrifices, and contributions must never be forgotten.

We remember. We honour. We thank you.

On Red Dress Day, we remember the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people whose voices, futures, and lives mattered deeply.

This day is about more than awareness. It is about truth, justice, accountability, and ensuring Indigenous communities are heard, respected, and protected. ❤️

Our new logo, refreshed by the students at Assiniboine College is a strong reminder of our community connections.

The maple leaf represents our Canadian military members and families.

The wheat? The Canadian prairies and our location in the wheat city and did you notice there are four of them?

They represent our four community organization partners without whom we would be able to do what we do!

A new year begins — and with it, renewed gratitude and commitment.

As we welcome this next chapter, Brandon Salutes reaffirms our promise to stand beside our Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, and their families.

Your service protects our freedoms, often at great personal cost, and we will never take that lightly.

May this year bring health, strength, connection, and moments of peace — whether you are serving at home, deployed abroad, or transitioning into civilian life.

Thank you for all you have given and continue to give.

From our hearts to yours,
Happy New Year.

We salute you — today and always. 🇨🇦
