Brandon Salutes

Brandon Salutes Fosters Unity of the military and civilian communities in the Brandon area. Its’ shape and form may change, but its presence will be everlasting.

Brandon Salutes’ activities and functions are based upon the goal of strengthening the community connection that exists between the Brandon, Rural Municipality of Cornwallis, CFB Shilo and the communities surrounding the base. Brandon Salutes highlights how our communities are already intertwined, and provide opportunities for our communities to grow closer. We encourage awareness of the differen

t lifestyles that exist in the civilian and military communities, and through understanding of each other’s viewpoints, build stronger relations between all. Brandon Salutes acts as a vehicle to continually grow the connection between our areas’ different communities. The committee’s efforts will be based on a long-term strategy that will connect our communities for years to come. Brandon Salutes will be successful if we continue to raise awareness amongst and engage many different people from our community groups. Brandon Salutes will continue as an organization as long as there is a military presence in our area.

Last week, Brandon Salutes was honoured to attend the Change of Command Ceremony for the 1st Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (1 RCHA) at CFB Shilo.

The ceremony marked the conclusion of LCol Jordan Beatty’s two years of leadership and the beginning of a new chapter under the command of LCol Pat Knox.

We extend our sincere thanks to LCol Beatty for his leadership, service, and contributions to 1 RCHA and our broader Westman community during his time in command.

We also congratulate and welcome LCol Knox as he assumes command of the Regiment. We look forward to continuing to strengthen the important relationship between 1 RCHA, CFB Shilo, and the communities of Westman.

These traditions are an important reminder of the history, service, leadership, and commitment that connect our military and civilian communities.

From all of us at Brandon Salutes, thank you to LCol Beatty, congratulations to LCol Knox, and best wishes to both as they begin their next chapters.

Something exciting is coming.

Brandon Salutes is preparing to launch a new website designed to better connect military members, veterans, families, businesses, and the wider community.

You'll discover local resources, community connections, participating businesses offering military discounts, events, and opportunities to get involved.

Because building a strong military community isn't something the base does alone, it's something we all do together.

Stay tuned.

More Than a Military Base

When people think of Shilo, they often think of soldiers.

But Shilo is also families.
Teachers.
Healthcare workers.
Coaches.
Musicians.
Volunteers.
Neighbours.

Military families enrich our schools, strengthen community organizations, support local events, and build lasting friendships throughout western Manitoba.

Being a welcoming community isn't just the right thing to do-it's part of what makes Brandon and the surrounding region such a great place to live.

Our Military History Lives Here

Western Manitoba is home to one of Canada's richest military heritage landscapes.

Located at CFB Shilo, the Royal Canadian Artillery Museum preserves the story of Canada's Gunners. Nearby, Camp Hughes stands as one of Canada's most significant First World War training sites, where thousands of soldiers prepared for service overseas. In Brandon, the 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum honours the legacy of our region's citizen soldiers, while the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum tells the remarkable story of how Manitoba helped forge the path to victory by training Allied aircrew during the Second World War.

Together, these museums and historic places reflect a story shared by Shilo and the surrounding communities - one of service, sacrifice, and partnership. For generations, military members, veterans, and local residents have built this region together, creating a legacy we're proud to share.

Our Board of Directors was absolutely thrilled to celebrate the retirement of Lori Truscott, one of the original members of Brandon Salutes

Her guidance, generosity and willingness to lead by example has set the bar for performance for all of us as we continue to build on her legacy of service to our community.

While we will miss her greatly, we are so incredibly excited to see her set forth on this next step in her journey!

Happy Retirement Lori!

We salute you!

Shilo is Growing. So Are We.

Shilo is growing, and that's good news for all of us.

Thousands of Canadian Armed Forces members, civilian employees, contractors, and their families call CFB Shilo home. They shop in our stores, volunteer in our communities, coach our kids' sports teams, support local charities, and help strengthen our regional economy every day.

When Shilo grows, our communities grow too.

At Brandon Salutes, we're proud to help make western Manitoba one of the most welcoming military communities in Canada.

Because supporting those who serve means strengthening the community we all share.

We are so thankful to The City of Brandon for completing the Veterans Crosswalk at Victoria and 11th last night!

We didn't announce the initiative in advance because with the weather the way it's been we wouldn't have been able to say when it was happening but a reprieve from the rain saw it down last night!

Every time you see this crosswalk please take a moment to reflect on how important our military and their families are to our communities and our country.

We thank you for your commitment and your sacrifice.
