Today, we had the privilege of attending the Freedom of the City ceremony as the 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery marched through Brandon.

This longstanding tradition is one of the highest honours a municipality can bestow on a military unit, recognizing service, trust, and the connection between a community and those who serve it.

As the soldiers, band, and artillery made their way through our city, it was clear that this ceremony carries special meaning for many people. For some, it is a reminder of years of service. For others, it reflects the sacrifices and support of military families who stand behind those who wear the uniform.

At United Way West Central Manitoba, we are fortunate to work alongside staff whose families have served, and continue to serve, in the Canadian Armed Forces. Seeing today's ceremony through their eyes was a powerful reminder that service extends beyond the individual to the families and communities who support them.

Thank you to the members of 1 RCHA, past and present, and to the military families who share in that commitment.

For Week of Caring today, we celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Day by spreading a little joy throughout our community. We visited local businesses and organizations, delivering small treats to staff members as a token of appreciation for all they do.

💙 Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day as part of our Week of Caring, and after recent storms, many Manitobans may need a little extra kindness.

Our thoughts are with the farmers, families, businesses, and communities across the province who are dealing with storm damage and cleanup. 🌳

Whether it's helping clear branches, checking in on a neighbour, delivering coffee to a cleanup crew ☕, or offering support to someone facing unexpected damage, small acts of kindness can make a difficult day a little easier.

The storms reminded us of the power of nature. The response reminds us of the strength of community.

We're thinking of those affected and grateful for the neighbour-helping-neighbour spirit that continues to shine across our region. 💙

How are you showing kindness today?
