Today, we had the privilege of attending the Freedom of the City ceremony as the 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery marched through Brandon.
This longstanding tradition is one of the highest honours a municipality can bestow on a military unit, recognizing service, trust, and the connection between a community and those who serve it.
As the soldiers, band, and artillery made their way through our city, it was clear that this ceremony carries special meaning for many people. For some, it is a reminder of years of service. For others, it reflects the sacrifices and support of military families who stand behind those who wear the uniform.
At United Way West Central Manitoba, we are fortunate to work alongside staff whose families have served, and continue to serve, in the Canadian Armed Forces. Seeing today's ceremony through their eyes was a powerful reminder that service extends beyond the individual to the families and communities who support them.
Thank you to the members of 1 RCHA, past and present, and to the military families who share in that commitment.
