Gakina Abinoojiiyag 《GAP》 Program

Supporting the footsteps of the Youth toward the future, we are a Youth Outreach Program of the Brandon Friendship Centre focused on youth homelessness prevention in Brandon, MB.

《 How do you say our name? 》
"Gah-kee-nah Ah-bin-oo-jhee-yah-g" / Program
Ojibway, Seauteux dialect / English
English translation: "All Children" Program
Acronym: GAP

《 Who do we

serve? 》
The GAP program works with youth ages 13 - 29 and their families in Brandon, Manitoba.

《 What do we do? 》
GAP is a youth homelessness prevention program for ages 13–29. We facilitate Life Skills Workshops and can work with youth on an occasional basis or provide Case Management Services. We are not a housing program, but do provide housing search/sustainability supports. Our aim is to connect with youth who are at risk of homelessness to help them identify their strengths and build meaningful connections to supports. We are a community based early intervention and prevention program for young people, and their families, who:
• need support transitioning to independent living
• are at risk of homelessness
• are living without secure housing

The goal is to keep youth connected to their family, community, and education by strengthening connections to natural supports and assisting with access to services.

《 How do we do this? 》
By taking a client-centered, rights-based approach to supporting young people and their families, the GAP program helps them to identify their strengths, set clear goals, and navigate barriers to achieving their goals in a safe and planned way. We provide information, offer systems navigation support, and advocacy services. We create space for family reunification, encourage connections to natural supports, and provide one-on-one mentorship to young people. We offer workshops, one-time (or as needed) support, as well as case management services.

《 How can we connect with you? 》

Order Chez Angela Bakery and Café today and support local youth connected to GAP Youth Outreach!

Thank you James, Angie, and the team for consistently creating small ways to take good care of community! So much appreciation!

We are open from 7am-8pm on Louis Riel Day, and a portion of today's proceeds will be going to support youth in our community through programming at GAP Youth Outreach.

5 dollars from every Family Pizza combo sold (2 pizzas and a Caesar Salad)
1 dollar from every lunch combo sold
1 dollar from every pizza and U-bake pizza sold
50 cents from every pastry and latte sold

We’re open on this day because we believe places like ours are part of what keeps a community stitched together. Louis Riel Day is about people, history, and looking after one another, and connecting with and understanding our shared history.

For us that means unlocking the doors, feeding our neighbours, and turning a regular day of service into something that gives back.

If you’re out and about, come in, have a bite, and know that your lunch or coffee is helping support youth programming right here at home.

is back from holiday break and we'd like to start the new year with gratitude!

Gakina Abinoojiiyag < GAP > Progam is a community-based youth homelessness prevention program. Our primary goal is to help local young people establish a solid foundation (ID, income, housing & life skills) so they may remain in or return to school, and ultimately move forward with their lives in a safe and planned way! 🫶🏽 We could not do this without the support of community!

Miigwetch, thank you to for supporting one local students steps toward a future of their own design! Their sponsorship to cover tuition fees with a little extra for school supplies was so deeply appreciated and a beautiful gift to a young person whose worked very hard to move forward with their education goals! Made for very happy holidays!
