CIERAD'S Legal Status
CANADIAN INSTITUTE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CIERAD is a registered Environmental Non-Government Organization (Not-for profit organization) and it is incorporated in the year 1999 in Canada. Its mandate and vision is " Bringing together the Multicultural Ethnic Communities, Government and Non Government organizations, National and International organizations,
Academic institutions and Experts, in a forum to protect the regional and global Environment, and address the Global Environmental Problems. Project Activities and Accomplishments:
CIERAD strongly believes in Miracles of community's sustainable participation this kind are coming through because of South Asian multicultural EcoFamily members who, among other things have planted 4100 trees in different parks and stream areas of Mississauga and Toronto.At present more than 750 families from multi cultural ethnic communities have become EcoFamily members. CIERAD is always interested in inviting multicultural ethnic communities to participate in EcoFamily membership programs. CIERAD planned many exciting naturalization programs for EcoFamilies which includes:
- Guided nature trips/ environmental discovery tours Stream walks and monitoring activities to gather on- site environment data (identification of trees, recognition of species varieties e.g. birds, fish, involvement in restoration activities). Organization of Youth Network for environmental development activities.
- Picture taking events to document pollution events and conditions.
- Fishing tournaments.
- Making bird nest boxes.
- Tree planting Stream bank trash pick- up days Community Gardening Environmental awareness and educational programs.
- Conducting educational workshops on energy conservation.
- Visiting watershed areas and wetlands.
