On a Thursday night, October 1,1998, a group of people met, in the Peel Heritage Complex, to discuss the rapid depletion of historical buildings in the City of Brampton and possible solutions to the destruction of our heritage. What have we done since then? We have been officially recognized by City Hall. We have been granted Associate Membership in the Ontario Historical Society. We have been the
custodians of the historic CPR Railway Station since it was dismantled and we remain dedicated to the rebuilding and restoration of the station for future generations to enjoy. We acquired and restored the Historic 1857 Bristow Fitzgerald Map of the Town of Brampton which now resides in the Peel Heritage Complex. We are responsible for the repair of the tower clock atop the 1888 'Dominion Building' [the designated heritage landmark at Queen & Main]. After years of neglect the clock is now monitored on an ongoing basis. Incidentally, the clock's works were manufactured by the same company that made the Great Clock of St Paul’s Cathedral in London. in 2004 we created The Paul Hunt Bursary Award open to any student who is a resident of Brampton, graduating from a public or separate secondary school within the Region of Peel and who has been accepted into an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution and who intends to major in Canadian history or related subjects. tinuing programs are designed to educate, preserve and enjoy the Heritage of Brampton and its surroundings. With a growing membership and exciting on going activities, if you are looking for a group that has a vision, and are willing to spend a little time to help us fulfil it, please consider joining us for the future of the past.
