Brampton takes action to secure the future of automotive manufacturing in Canada 🚗

Today, City Council unanimously approved a motion to advance new planning protections for the Stellantis Brampton Assembly Plant, limiting the use to automotive assembly and related advanced manufacturing.

This strategic step protects one of Canada’s most vital automotive assets in Brampton, secures high‑value jobs, and provides the long‑term certainty needed to attract and sustain future industry investment.

Canada’s automotive sector supports approximately 125,000 direct jobs nationwide, with hundreds of thousands more across the supply chain. Brampton’s assembly operations are a critical economic engine, driving innovation, skilled employment and billions in economic impact.

By advancing these land use protections, the and – Economic Development Office are reinforcing Brampton’s position as a premier manufacturing hub, with access to skilled talent and infrastructure that global companies need to scale.

🚨 Major Investment Win for Brampton

Ontario is welcoming a $141 million investment from Coca-Cola Canada Bottling Limited. to expand its flagship manufacturing, distribution and sales centre in the

The expansion will introduce a new state-of-the-art production line capable of producing at least 20 million additional cases annually, create up to 500 good-paying construction jobs, and further strengthen Ontario’s beverage manufacturing and agri-food supply chain. 

Since becoming an independent business, Coca-Cola Canada Bottling has invested more than $230 million into its Brampton operations. Today, the facility is home to 1,000+ employees serving over 7,000 local customers from Kitchener to Oshawa. 

Built exclusively by Canadian tradespeople with at least 75% domestically sourced materials, this expansion reinforces Brampton’s position as a competitive, resilient and technology-driven manufacturing hub. 

Brampton continues to attract transformative investment by offering a skilled workforce, strategic location and scalable infrastructure.

ICYMI: We recently convened Brampton Innovation District partners at City Hall to align on shared priorities and goals for 2026, a meaningful step forward in strengthening the ’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The Brampton Innovation District is a coordinated, city-led ecosystem that brings together post-secondary institutions, accelerators, incubators and industry partners to support founders at every stage, from idea to scale. Through collaboration, shared programming and targeted support, the Innovation District helps startups access talent, capital, mentorship and market opportunities in Brampton.

We were pleased to have strong representation from Algoma University Immersive, Brampton Angels (now Altitude Angels), Brampton Venture Zone by TMU, Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst, Toronto Metropolitan University, Brampton Entrepreneur Centre, BHive, and Altitude Accelerator.

The session opened with welcome remarks from Chair of Invest Brampton - Economic Development Office, Councillor Gurpartap Singh Toor, followed by an overview of City goals and the long-term vision for the Innovation District. Partners then shared their 2026 objectives, ongoing and upcoming programs, and opportunities to better coordinate support for founders.

A key theme throughout the morning was collaboration, with open conversations around shared priorities, challenges, and deeper alignment across the ecosystem.

Today, the ’s – Economic Development Office hosted the second Mayor’s Tariff Task Force meeting, bringing together federal, municipal and industry leaders from key sectors including advanced manufacturing, innovation and technology, food and beverage processing and logistics.

Mayor was joined by the Honourable , Minister of International Trade, Economic Development Chair Regional Councillor , Vice-Chair Regional Councillor and members of the City’s Economic Development team. The discussion highlighted opportunities to expand exports into new markets and reinforced Brampton’s strengths in space and defence.

Building on insights from the inaugural meeting, the session supports the continued implementation of Brampton’s award-winning Tariff Action Plan, strengthening advocacy and business supports as Canada prepares for CUSMA negotiations in 2026.
