Another day, another amazing woman to celebrate 😍

Kindé’s music video for Know Better is a finalist for Best Music Video at the Porto Music Video Festival and a nominee for Best Music Video at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival 👏🏽👏🏽

And that’s not all - her debut EP, Letters in Love, has been nominated for R&B Soul Recording of the Year right here at the YYC Music Awards! 🥹

We could not be more proud and we are honoured to have someone so talented on our team. Kindé is hosting her second solo show, Velvet Roots, on Saturday, August 15. Swipe to learn more about the show - we hope to see you there to congratulate her in person! ✨

VELVET ROOTS - the lineup:

✨ Kindé is a UK-born, Calgary-based artist whose sound blends R&B, Afrobeats and Hip hop elements, rooted in gospel/soul influences. A two-time YYCMA nominee for Best R&B/Soul Recording of the Year and a two-time Canadian Black Screen Award recipient, she is carving out her own lane.

✨ Bkay Won (Bkay Won) is a Calgary-based singer, songwriter and rapper, now stepping onto the poetry stage for the second time. As a poet, Bkay brings fresh perspective, vulnerability, and heart to the podium and uses her words to explore love, change, growth, and everyday moments that connect us all.

✨ Dena G (DENA G) is an R&B-pop singer-songwriter from Calgary, Alberta with proud Persian roots. She began posting covers on YouTube in 2018, which sparked her journey into official songwriting. Since then, she has continued to use music as an emotional outlet.

✨ Saint Heston (SAINT HESTON) is Alberta’s Tiny Desk hip-hop pilgrim. It’s live-band storytelling, somewhere in between Sunday service and a smoke break.

This month SHADES went on the road to Fernie, premiering SHADES in BC. In collaboration with our incredible partners, we witnessed how much these stories matter. We got time to hang with some of our S2 and S3 cast — thrifting👚, skating 🛼, karaoke-ing🎤, and just generally remembering how good this community feels. 🥹❤️❤️❤️❤️🤗

SHADES is going on the road for the first time! 🚗

We have been invited by Fernie Pride to hold a special community event of film and conversation, SHADES: Through Her Lens, on Thursday, May 7.

As always, we will be celebrating Black and racialized women and showcasing underrepresented stories with a curated selection of our SHADES films. In attendance will be three of our incredible SHADES alumni: Tea Fannie, Priscilla Cherry, and Livvy Skates 😍

Tickets are encouraged to be purchased in advance and are pay-what-you-can with a suggested donation of $5. All proceeds are used to support the event. Get your tickets through the link in bio!

Thank you to Fernie Pride and to event partners Alpine Pathways Psychology, Elk Valley Su***de Task Force, Dr.
Marian Ma, and Park Place Lodge.

SEE YOU IN BC! 🏔️
