Afghan Youth International Council ( AYIC) Fact Sheet. Afghan Youth International Council (AYIC)
After the collapse of the Taliban’s regime, the international community backed government that has come into existence treated young professional unfairly and this has been ongoing for a long while and the causes are already known. The so called leaders who have been assigned posts in the government ha
ve not done inclusive development work for the sustainable development of the community. This is either because they do not want to commit themselves wholeheartedly in this regards or youth may possibly have not shared their concerns and problems with them. By far, youth have not been effectively involved in key government posts and those patriotic professional youth who have held lower ranking posts in the capital Kabul also feel stranger and cannot confidently serve their people or express their views because they fear they may lose their jobs and thus lose earning a living. Because they do not bear support at government level, they therefore step aside. But some limited Afghan families and their leaders have continuing consultations with their young generation and conduct their activities more orderly major examples of which are available. They receive high share of posts in the government as well as the foreign educational scholarships programs. As each day passes, educated, professional, intelligent and hardworking youth are being marginalized and ignored and if this process continues, we will definitely lose everything. We need institutional arrangements in each ministry and reforms in all public institutions for the peaceful, development, integrated, inclusive and sustainable development for the successful transition in Afghanistan. Afghanistan is now facing a critical period that will determine the success of its future development efforts. The new Afghan administration needs to maintain and enhance the social and economic gains of the past decade, while facing financial and political challenges resulting from the withdrawal of foreign troops and a projected decline in total donor assistance. My country, Afghanistan’s daunting development crisis, fuelled by rising unemployment and a fragile growth process, demands well-coordinated and better planned policy measures (at the government level). In order to address these issues to some extent, it is therefore required that we established a coordination group, council or network amongst ourselves and work towards encouraging education and providing employment opportunities for our Afghan Youth. Calculated and judiciously targeted policy actions are a dire need to tame the crisis, put the growth process on a right path, and as a result create decent employment opportunities aimed at a gradual and sustained reduction of poverty. AYIC has the following goals:
• Youth education
• Youth volunteers
• Youth parliament
• Youth model
• Youth governance
• Youth sports
To meet the above goals, the following tasks will need to be carried out:
1. For the first, a coordination group or network shall be established amongst Youth of Kabul which shall then be extended to the provinces
2. Employment opportunities to be provided in the capital Kabul and provinces for the youth and make efforts to place jobless professional youth in key posts
3. Efforts at securing scholarships for youth in foreign countries and asking for their rights
4. Convene meetings and consultations in Kabul with young officials and seek their assistance in raising awareness of the Afghan youth, strengthening their moral help and providing them with employment opportunities.
5. Make efforts at securing jobs for the youth in Afghan embassies overseas because now Afghans living abroad are facing many problems
6. The Kabul based youth network may express their views freely
7. Work towards a better alternative for the 2015 parliamentary elections
8. Implementation of development projects in regional provinces to address the problems and provide employment income generation and reduce poverty of the local people of the community and improve its livelihood.
10. Awareness of sport activities in the youth which will ultimately contribute to better health in the current generation and coming generations. Sport is one of the major peace campaigns in Afghanistan which diverts the youth from terrorism and other anti social activities.
11. Volunteer contribution of youth in disaster management and healthcare and environmental protection and food security. At a professional level this Council will enhance the management, business knowledge and skills as well to bring together inter and multidisciplinary approaches and methodologies for a more comprehensive overview of the current challenges of public administration. These set of skills will help the youth devise bold solutions to tough financial, leadership, human resource and program/project management problems. Therefore, the demand for trained individuals in the public sector is significant and will be more significant as the country prepares to rebuild and sustain itself in an open economy and democratic environment. The future socioeconomic performance of the Afghanistan depends in great part on the education of its human resources at the highest level. Knowledge and information have to be the driving force for economic growth in the coming years for Afghanistan. Much needs to be done to help Afghanistan reach its development potential and capitalize on its natural resources and pivotal geographical location.
